Transfer to Stern

Is tranferring from CAS to Stern really competitive? Since CAS is my match(Stern is my reach) I plan to get into CAS first and then transfer to Stern after my freshmen year.

As the admissions b/b always says in answer to this question, "internal transfers to Stern are highly competitive and not guaranteed". That's why they recommend that if you are interested in Stern, you apply to Stern initially and not count on a transfer. Transferring in, even internally, gives you less of a chance than freshman admission does.

If I go to CAS I will probably major in math(my strength), let's say I get a high 3 GPA and get good recs, would that be better than to apply directly(All my stats are below Stern averages)?

Thats a good idea. a Math/Finance degree would be unreal.

at an admissions reception i went to, they said that 3 ppl were able to transfer from cas to stern last year....

On nyu's website they say if you are not sure what your major is then apply CAS and then tranfer. It seems this doesn't apply to Stern.
