Hello all,
I am a student at Emory, looking to transfer to Tulane. I noticed Tulane has two forms of transfer decisions, early and regular. I could not find, however, any information on whether the early transfer application was binding. Thank you very much.
I regret your not getting a response. CC is unfortunately more freshman admissions oriented. It would be nice if we had a resident “transfer expert” for Tulane. Good luck in getting the info you need and, more importantly, successfully transferring!
Yeah, I remember using it quite a bit my freshman year. Thanks for the well wishes, I’ll keep doing research and when I find out I’ll post the answer here just in case some other soul shares my same fate of being uninformed and this might help.
Just out of curiosity, why are you thinking of transferring from Emory to Tulane? Could be helpful info to others deciding between those two schools. Thanks!
Honestly, I really like Emory and a lot of my desire to transfer stems from personal desires for change stemming from a rough year of life I don’t really want to get into. However, I want to be a journalist and I feel that the opportunities at Emory to learn about that general field and take courses in it are limited. Emory has a very academic heavy focus, which is great, but I’ve found the social life to be a bit lacking. I’m far from a party guy, but I like having friends to hang out and go out with. And from my experience, there are two distinct crowds at Emory, the party crowd, and the academic crowd, with little middle ground. I could be off on the whole, but that’s what I’ve experienced. People are either studying all day or partying. And I think the academic focus is obviously very important in college, I just also want to grow as a person, alongside a rigorous academic life. I think it’s just more of a personal thing, honestly. There’s nothing wrong with Emory, I just feel Tulane has a great social life that will really be good for me. I love the city of New Orleans, whereas Atlanta I find kind of average. The ability to find other social science students to associate with at Tulane will be much higher, and just the school will be more my style. I’m also thinking of applying to Vanderbilt and Occidental, just to have my bases covered. Sometimes it’s that little thing you can’t quite place, and for me, that’s what is why I want to transfer. I feel that about Tulane, that it’s the place for me to be, and I don’t quite feel like Emory is my home. However, I know lots of people who do feel Emory is their home.
I know I probably sound a bit wishy-washy, I just don’t want to discourage anyone from going to Emory. It’s a great place and if you like it there then you’ll flourish. I just need something more Tulane(y).

I stopped reading at “Atlanta I find kind of average”. Atlanta vs New Orleans?? If you don’t like Atl which is Emory’s largest draw then, yes you should transfer.
@VANDEMORY1342
Ok, that’s good for you, I suppose, to not read the entire post. Notice that I am already in the process of transferring, and only posted this because someone asked me to share my opinions. I also very clearly note, multiple times, that these are my experiences and not universal. I never said I disliked Atlanta, I just come from a city that I feel is very similar to ATL and feel that it isn’t a terribly new and exciting city for me personally.
Thank you TeddyBear for sharing your thoughts. Very helpful.
Tulane early transfer is not binding. It is just a way to apply earlier and hear back earlier!

OK! Thank you very much for your help, I appreciate it a ton. That’s really great to hear.
