I am currently a Freshman at NYU, and looking to transfer to Tulane and get into finance and possibly economics. Weighted high school GPA was around 97% with an average of 99.17% in both senior and junior years. SAT scores were 670 math, 760 reading, 750 writing. My best ACT score was a 32 overall with a perfect score in reading. I was also editor-in-chief of the school paper for 2 years, vice president of Model UN and the recycling club (I also served as treasurer). I was on the school's ultimate frisbee team (which got 3rd in state). I only took 4 AP classes, but I took 8 IB classes to make up for it. On a side note, I had an internship at a local investment firm for all of senior year. I am currently maintaining a 4.0 at NYU.

All of that being said, what are my chances of being able to transfer into Tulane for the Spring semester?

Did you check to see how many credits they require completed? Some schools require 30 credits completed. I’m not sure about Tulane. If they have no requirement then I think you have a good shot!

Tulane does not require 30 credits (only SAT scores if less than 30 hours have been obtained). On a further side I am also looking at Emory and the Goizuetta business school. As far as prestige is concerned, Tulane actually is in the top 10 schools for finance internationally and has very good job placement and internship opportunities in the field. They can also offer me some scholarships which is something that I will be hard pressed to get at other schools (for example NYU).

Thank you both for the responses.

Unless money is a huge, I mean huge issue, stay at Stern.

Their is absolutely no comparison between tulane and Stern when it comes to majoring in finance. Stern will open many doors tulane simply won’t. The location can’t be beat either.

Tulane is by no means a bad school but for you to be a finance major leaving stern you would be trading down on every single criteria.

While I agree with you on the fact that Stern certainly opens more doors than Freeman, I am currently not enrolled in Stern. Rather, I am in the college of arts and sciences studying economics. Money is not a huge issue either, although any money gained in scholarship to undergrad will be given to me for grad school meaning I can avoid debt later on. What is the larger issue for me is NYU itself. I am looking for a school with a real community feel to it, and that just isn’t the case at NYU. And while New York City is great for a visit, it’s very difficult to live here.

Well if you want to be a Tulane, I would say you’re a foot in the door with those stats. You can apply to be a freshman transfer.

However, why would you want to go to Tulane over NYU? It is Stern business school, which trumps Freeman.

I am also looking at Wake Forest if any of you have an opinion on ease of transfer to that school…

Not being in stern is a different issue entirely. Tulane is a good school and im sure you will find some representation on the street but wake forest is definitely more of a semi target recruitment wise than tulane. Your stats are find for both those schools.

Gpunger104-feel free to p.m. me. Was a freshman last year at NYU (felt the same way you did). Now a sophomore at Vanderbilt. Keep your head out, it might suck now, but you can get out. Again, let me know if you have any questions, would love to help you out!

by the way transferring out of NYU was the best thing I could have ever done. At the end of the year it was a tough decision to start over or stay, but i’m so glad to be here
