Hi, I'm just finishing my first year at RPI and I didn't enjoy it at all so I'm considering transferring. I'm doing fine academically (should have a 3.9), but I'm not inspired or motivated to do anything and socialy I'm unhappy as well. I want to transfer to a school where I can get outside and go climbing more (the one thing I still know I love).

Currently I'm on the path to be math major and will have no problem graduating a year early. however I realize that a math degree isz often better paired with a second degree like comp sci or physics (two areas I wouldn't mind studying). If I do dual major I won't be able to graduate early. I am also considering grad school (don't ask me what I want for a career, because I have no idea, and yes I know what I choose now does depend on that).

I guess my question is math only major at RPI or dual major at UofA or CU? Thanks

What did you not like about RPI. My son is going in the fall, and he is planning to switch from BME to math before orientation. Will the other schools really be better than RPI or are you simpl frustrated with school? That’s especially impt if you have any scholarships.

The others schools will not be better than RPI, RPI is considered a good school for math or BME (probably better for BME though). I simply dislike the school, I’m doing very well in all my classes however I’m not really inspired to do anything but the bare minimum to get a good grade. I’ve stopped doing things I normally enjoy and am not talking advantage of some of the opportunities a college or university provides. I feel like I’m back in HS, go to school, come back home except without any good friends, bad weather and a bad location (I’m from CO so that’s part of it). I do have a pretty good scholarship, however it’s still a lot of money to pay for the experience I’m getting.

That being said, a lot of kids like it. It seems like the majority of kids I have met integrate pretty well and enjoy it.

Sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy it. I k ow what you mean about a lot of money…
What did you decide to do?

Rpi is a very expensive school. Even with the scholarship CU or UofA would be cheaper. Still haven’t decided.

Have you decided what to do yet? I hope it works out well for you.

I decided to attend CU

Congrats. I’m sure it’s a relief to have made the decision.
