Hi, I have a dilemma and I was wondering if you could help me solve it.

So I am a student at a Community College in California. I just received my TAG approval to UC Davis today in my e-mail :D. Basically my situation is this: I have completed 40 units so far, taking 16 units currently, and will be done with more than 60 units by Spring 2009. I currently have a 2.97 cumulative GPA and I need to maintain a 2.9 cumulative(?) GPA before my transfer enrollment.

I am currently struggling in my classes and was wondering if I need to maintain a 2.9 before Fall 2009... or is it possible to take summer classes at my community college and have that count in my cumulative GPA prior to my transfer? I don't want my TAG to be cancelled and I do want to transfer this year. I know I can do better during the summer so the classes I will be taking will boost up my GPA.

Also, my major is BIOCHEM which means I have to take a lot of biology, chemistry, physics, and calculus courses. I have to maintain C's or above in all of these classes (which I have been doing). But if I have not finished an entire year of biology (let's say I only completed Bio 215 when I should have completed Bio 230 as well)... does that really slow me down if I take this at UC Davis in Fall 2009? I don't mind staying 3 years vs. 2 years in order to graduate from Davis... Is it normal for students to graduate from a university in 5 years vs. 4 years?

So what I REALLY want to know is, does my cumulative GPA count even after Summer 2009 (RIGHT before I transfer to UCD)? or because of the TAG, does this only limit the cumulative GPA for Fall 2008 / Spring 2009...

That's a lot of questions but I hope someone can help me out... I'm pretty confused about everything. Please help if you know any facts related to this topic.

Well thank you so much and I look forward to hearing back from you!

Sincerely,

Hey I'm biological sciences got my TAG approved too :) congrats!! "All courses in progress/planned in addition to the required courses noted below must be completed with grades of C or better, unless otherwise specified, by the end of spring 2009" So I dont think taking summer classes would help. Just maintain the 2.9 from here on out and finish all the required classes that it says below that by spring 2009. If I'm not mistaken don't we have to finish 1 yr of bio for TAG? Good luck!

Thanks for your reply.

According to Assist.org for my Biochem major:

"If students complete only one Biological Sciences course, they must earn a "B" grade or better."

So we do not need one year of biology, but it is highly recommended. So basically they only look at the grades after this semester (Fall 2008)...? Hmmm...

i got my tag approved too! for managerial economics. jw.
Major Course(s) Required:

You have completed the course requirement for admission in your major.

Admission to UC Davis in pre-managerial economics does not guarantee admission to the managerial economics major. Students apply in the "Managerial Economics, Pre-" category of the UC application. Completion of and performance in prerequisite courses is critical in determining acceptance to the managerial economics major following admission to UC Davis. After completing your first quarter at UC Davis, you may petition the department for admission to the major. You must receive a letter grade in each course and only the first repeat of any pre-major course will be considered in your petition review. For entrance to the managerial economics major, students must complete the following courses witha cumulative GPA of at least 2.80: Economics 1A/B; Statistics 13; Mathematics 16A/B or Mathematics 21A/B. The courses listed above may be completed at community college or at UC Davis.

so...does that mean i don't have to do any more major prereqs??

Now you just have to maintain a 2.8 GPA before you transfer... Fyi you should make your own thread 'cause this has nothing to do with mine!

I believe the gpa used is going to be the one at the end of your spring semester and not just fall 08. I would call admissions though to make sure.

Your overall GPA will need to stay above the GPA listed; if listed as a 2.9 then the overall GPA should stay above a 2.9. If your GPA falls below this requirement you will need to report this change to our office so we can properly advise you. This might include completing summer courses to raise the GPA as an option but, that isn't always allowed.

I want to tell you that statistically, over half the students (including many transfers) take more than more tha 4 years for freshmen to gradate and 2-3 years for transfers. No, it is not uncommon. UCD has tough requirements. It takes a while to meet them.
