Transfer to UC from CCC but have also attended CSU

I would appreciate any comment/advice/suggestion etc. So my situation is this right now:

I am currently trying to transfer to UCI or UCLA as a computer science major for Fall 2018. My GPA is 3.89 and by Spring 2018 I would complete all the major requirements for UCI but will be missing one physics and one calculus class for UCLA. I will be applying for TAG for UCI as well. However, here is the problem: I graduated high school in 2015 and went to CSUF for fall 2015 as a business major. I took two classes (MATH115 and HCOM100) but only attended one day because I was busy working in the mortgage industry. I was able to drop the math class and get a W however, I was not able to drop HCOM and so I got an F. I later withdrew from the university in Feb 2016 and then enrolled in CCC starting Summer 2016.

In my understanding, I am supposed to disclose all my academic records when applying to the UC’s and my question is this:

  1. For the UC TAP, the system counted the classes I took in CSUF in my overall GPA which dropped it to 3.6 from 3.89. When applying to the UC's will they only count the GPA from the CCC that I am currently attending or will they also take into account the GPA from CSUF and combine it like in the TAP system?
  2. Since my major was different when enrolled in CSUF, will the UC's take that into account when looking at my application or will they look at it as classes I have taken just like the other classes I have taken in my CCC that are not related to my major?
  3. If this does end up being disadvantageous to me, is there a way I can counter this? (For example take a similar class offered at my CCC and potentially replace the grade etc.)

Thank you for your time to read this. Any comment/advice/suggestion is welcome.

you should work with the xfer center at your CCC and also talk to the UC rep when the visit.

In general, though, UC admissions are not formula driven. Your recent coursework will be taken to be more indicative of you than a class you took in 2015.

Yes, this works. The rules are kinda incomplete on the website but you can start with http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/q-and-a/repeating/index.html This question is an example of why you should work with your xfer center and the UC rep; the trick is going to be finding a course they will consider equivalent and there may be other technicalities

I will be talking to my counselor next week. @mikemac Thank you for your advice!

[Update for those who might encounter similar issue in the future]

After talking to my counselor and UC Reps it was concluded that I retake the HCOM 100 course at CSUF and replace the F with a better grade that way I would be in good standing there as well. The UC’s do count the overall GPA however they look at the trend of the student’s grades. Nevertheless, in order to increase the GPA, the best solution is to retake the class at the same institution and replace the failing grade.
