I'm currently attending De Anza Community College. In a week I will begin my last quarter of my 1st year.

I want to transfer to: UCI
Back up options: UCSB, UCSD
Longshots: UCLA, UCB

I'm taking Math 114 this coming quarter, so by the end of Summer 2012, I'll be done Math 1B.

If I were to target Business Administration at UCI, I could be done by next year (so I would have spent 2 years total at De Anza).

Now, Business Econ (for UCI, UCLA, and the others), has a lot more classes needed based on assist.org.

I guess my main issue here is that I don't want to spend more than 2 years at De Anza.

Can I transfer to UCI as a Business Admin major and then transfer to Business Econ. Or should I take my time and spend 3 years at De Anza, transferring right into Business Econ?

Yea you can do that. The only problem with sticking around in a UC more than 2 years is your major sources of financial aid will only last 2 years (calgrants, blue and gold, and such). A CC costs about $800 a semester, ultimately… a UC costs about $14,000 a year.

I might end up having to do a 3rd year at this rate anyway, but I’ve been taking CCC classes over 4 years so it doesn’t bother me tremendously. I guess you’d need to weigh your options and decide accordingly.

But I figure if I transfer out of De Anza CC after being here two years total, I’d be done at the UC in 2 years also. Or would I have to do 3 years at the UC?

What if I do 3 years at De Anza? Will I only do 2 years at a UC?

Sounds good. Here’s where I’m still stuck though.

If I decide to go towards the Business Admin Major, I can be out of De Anza by next year (meaning I did 2 years at De Anza).

If I was to go for the Business Econ Major, I’d have to definitely stay at De Anza for 2 more years (meaning I’d spend three years here in total).

Is there ANYTHING stopping me from transferring to UCI, UCLA, UCB, etc… as a Business Admin Major, and then changing my major to Business Econ ?

It is highly unlikely that you will get in as a biz admin major. Biz econ should be easy. Just finish the pre-reqs. It is not even that much.

Just take micro and macro, 1 year of calculus, and IGETC and you should be solid. Don’t take cal 3 or linear algebra. Take math 4 when you transfer.

Read that somewhere else as well (about the business admin major). Thanks for clearing that up though.

So, on assist.org it says to transfer from De Anza to UCI as a Business Econ major I need:

MATH 1A Calculus
MATH 1B Calculus
MATH 1C Calculus
MATH 1D Calculus
MATH 2B Linear Algebra
CIS 28 & Object Oriented Computer Science I
CIS 35A Introduction to Java Programming
ECON 2 Principles of Microeconomics
ECON 1 Principles of Macroeconomics
ANTH 1 Physical Anthropology
ANTH 2 Cultural Anthropology (already took this)
ANTH 6 Linguistic Anthropology
ELIT 25 Introduction to Linguistics

By the end of this quarter I will have completed Econ 1 as well, and most of IGETC (I’ll need like 1 more class from IGETC).

How is it you’re saying I can get out with Calc, Macro and Micro econ, and IGETC?

PS. I placed in Math 114 unfortunately, which I will take this quarter. Then I’ll take Math 51, then Math 49, THEN, I’ll start from 1A. So I’ll basically be starting Math 1A Spring of 2012.

The only “mandatory” classes for Business Econ is

Math 1A/B
Econ 1/2
and 2 social science classes beside econ

i would recommend not taking 1c/1d and 2b and programming at CC mainly due to the fact that those classes can be taken at UCI at a much easier level

1c/d and 2b is condensed into one class Math 4 and the 2 programming classes become Social Science 3A. 2, 4 unit quarter classes rather than 20+ semester units at CC

Business admin is also MUCH harder to get into than Business Econ so that is not the best route. Just TAG into UCI and take those other classes here. You have more than enough time in your 2 years to finish all the classes you need.

P.S and truthfully Math 4 and Social science 3A is MUCH easier then their C.C counterpart.

Thanks for the help Peter. So, the only concern of mine; what is the point of assist.org. If it tells me I need all those classes, but I really don’t, what’s the point?

I just want to make sure, cause if those classes that you mention are all I really need to transfer, I’ll definitely lighten up my load of classes this quarter (I’m enrolled in 23 units).
