Transfer to UC

I completed my sophomore year at CSU and I have 61 semester units at CSU. I am planning to go to community college and transfer to computer engineering program at UC. I talked to community college counselor and they said that UCs do not accept applicant with more than 80 semester units. I also asked UC davis with similar question but they said that they do admit but it is very difficult to get in to their program.

Is my case a special one? Do I have chance to get into one of the UC?

Thanks!

im not quite sure about your situation. it seems to me that because you have the bulk of your credits for a CSU, regardless i you go to a CC for whatever credits you want to take, you will be applying as a CSU transfer. If this is the case, then it is rather hard for you to transfer seeing how the UCs take CC in priority.

as for your 80credit limit, if all your credits are from a community college, all will count toward satisfying requirements such as english, math, etc. however only a specific amount of credits will count as actual credits IE if you have 1000 credits, whatever classes they may be, they will count to satisfy prerequiste requirements but only 80 will transfer, so at the end of the day, you will have 80 credits in the UC system to your name.

seeing how you dont have all your credits from CC, you are definitly a special case. Most likely you will simply be treated as a CSU transfer and NOT a CC transfer thereby limiting your chances dramatically

Edit: 80 credit limit is also dependent from uc to uc, berkeley has a 70 credit limit. you should check whatever UC you want to transfer to and find out their limit

People in this forum are always saying that there are not limitations to how many units a person has. Not too sure about it though. You should research the schools you are applying to just to make sure.

simply put: Don't exceed the maximum allowed units (80 semester units I think) plus don't start taking junior level courses in calstate if you plan to transfer to UC so try to finish as much lower division plus GEs as possible. Better way is follow the IGETC but in your case, i don't think this is possible.

For students transferring from a 4-year institute, YES there is a limit. Once you go beyond that limit, you will NOT be accepted.

For students transferring from a community college, NO there is no limit. You will still be accepted to UC even if you go beyond the "limit".

This is UC Davis answer.
Does that mean there is a chance that they will admit some high unit applicant?

[quote]

If it is found that a student has 80 semester/120 quarter units or more,
their application is forwarded to the dean's office of the college to which
they applied. The dean's office will then decide if the student will be
admitted or not.
