Transfer to UCB?

I want to transfer to UC Berkeley in the Fall of 2010 as a Psych major. I feel like I'm pretty "well-rounded". My GPA is alright, but not great...it's about a 3.6. I work 20-30 hours a week as a manager at a Jamba Juice (don't snicker!), and I have a job in intelligence with the California National Guard. This job requires a Top Secret Security clearance, which I was recently granted...I don't know if that makes a difference or not. I go to a cc that has a high transfer rate to UCB (I got to DVC, if anyone's ever heard of it). I've also heard that UCs give priority to veterans/military members.

This whole transfer process is making me lose sleep! Can someone give me some real advice or validation of some sort? I'd really appreciate it.

Also, if I don't get Psych as my major, do I get my second choice automatically or is my whole application discarded?

Thanks.

I would say that due to your gpa, you’re borderline.

but actually, the fact that you work for the national guard might be a great extra push. i’m not too sure how that will come into play. i know that if you’re a veteran, you get high priority. you should do some research on that.

I talked to a rep on the phone and she told me it’s completely dependent on what major you’re applying to!
Also, she recommended keeping the gpa above a 3.5 to be at least competitive, which you did!
She super emphasized the importance of the personal statement, so don’t procrastinate on that one :P

But I’ll put the link here which shows transfer admit rates for cal–

it can be as “easy” as 40% of as low as oh gosh 16%? maybe worse haha

don’t stress! if you don’t get in it’s meant for a reason. :P

edit: it shows psych in the 21% admit rate, so i’d say try to get ur gpa up as absolutely high as you can and write the best personal statement! It’s gonna be tough, but after all is said and done–it is only just a school. life goes on :P
