Transfer to UCLA as Computer Science major?

Hi, I was wondering how hard it would be to transfer to UCLA as a computer science major. For those who have gotten into UCLA’s computer science program, it would really help if you posted all the classes you took + your GPA and any extracurriculars  I plan to complete all the major prep requirements and maintain a decent GPA but I was wondering if that would make me stand out enough. Thank you in advance! All help is appreciated.

I would also like to add that I currently attend a CCC.

You can look up the transfer GPA for UCLA CS major using this link.

Are you using assist.org to help plan your courses?

@Gumbymom Yes, I checked out all of the requirements on assist.org  But will completing all of these classes give me a good enough chance to get accepted? Or is there anything else that I should do in order to be competitive?

It looks like the program has about 4%transfer admit rate - Slightly more selective than Stanford and Harvard are for freshman admissions. A near perfect GPA is assumed. You will need to distinguish yourself in other manners, ECs, essays, etc. You should certainly apply but, understand, it is a long shot for all of the applicants in the pool.

Please apply elsewhere - don’t know your stats but, you should probably use a TAG school as your back up.

Completing all the requirements is only one part of being accepted. As @NCalRent noted, you need to have a competitive GPA, a good personal statement(s) and some major related EC’s to increase your chances. Definitely apply to several schools so you do have a choice come Spring.

Good Luck.

@NCalRent Yeah, I was already going to do TAG for UCI. I was also going to apply to UCSD as well. Thank you for the advice!

@Gumbymom Thank you! Do you have any idea on how many ECs should suffice?

For EC’s, quality always over quantity.

There’s no one answer for any of this. There’s no magic number of EC’s that’ll get you in. Simply completing the pre-reqs won’t get in … considering they’re expected of everyone. You’re expected to have a good GPA.

You need a solid GPA. You need all your pre-reqs completed. You need to really show them in your essays why they should select you. You need to show through your ECs that you make an impact in the things you’re involved in.

It sounds like you need to read … and read … and read some more. Google is your friend. There are probably hundreds of threads asking the same thing on CC alone. Research and come back with more specific questions.
