I am an international student and I want to transfer to UCLA Business Economics major in Fall 2010. I am involved in the Honors Program (so i will be doing TAP) and Phi Theta Kappa honors society. I'm also a Secretary of Circle K International (a community service club in my college) and holding Vice President position of another club. My GPA is 3.75 but unfortunately, I got a C in my second semester of calculus, which is a major requirement for my major. Other than that, I got one B in Philosophy and straight A's in other classes. So do I still have a chance to get in? Besides, I currently go to Irvine Valley College and my school has the 3rd highest transfer rate to 4-year universities in California. Is my school's reputation gonna help by any chance?

i wouldnt say a school’s reputation has a major impact on UCLA’s decision criteria. bc if that was the case, they’d just take a majority of transfers from santa monica cc (which i guess they kinda do). i dont think the B in philosophy should hurt, but the C in calc 2 might. u still have a chance to get in b/c u will have the TAP program and have priority over other students. btw i’m a bus admin major and i was planning to do bus econ for ucla, but i finally came to my senses and decided that i do, in fact, want to do business. not “business” econ, which is basically the same as economics, with “business” added to its name to attract business students.

I transferred into UCLA under bizecon in 07. Your stats are sound. Keep getting good grades and most importantly, “FINISH TAP”

Be sure to begin writing your essays as early as possible and have it corrected for grammar and spelling errors at your college writing center. When you reach the “hardships” prompt. Write 1-2 sentences summarizing your hardships and how you overcame those hardships. UCLA readers want to see that you’re a productive person, not a whiner.

thanks a lot! I’m planning to finish my TAP this Fall by taking 3 more honors classes, which is gonna be tough but i’ll try my best. Hope that will help… :|

There’s no rush to finish tap. As long as you finish it by the end of spring prior to transferring.

I think there were international students who had 4.0s who were rejected from business economics with a lot of extracurriculars. its harder to get into impacted majors and especially moreso for international students for impacted majors

there were a couple residents rejected with 1 B also. If you search through the results threads some people got rejected with 3.94 gpas for econ.
