Last year the average GPA of a political science transfer major to UCLA was a 3.65. I have a 3.66, but there are also 2,000 more students applying this year than last year to the university. My question, simply put, is "should I be optimistic about my chances?"

From what I hear, UCLA gives the same consideration to other UC students as it does to community college students.

Pros:
Studied abroad in Germany fall quarter of sophomore year
Member of Student Council Freshman year
Finished all lower-division requirements for political science
Finished all GE requirements for Thurgood Marshall College
Joined a Fraternity
Worked at student dining hall
Interned abroad over the summer

Cons:
No extensive leadership in college
GPA????? (Good enough?)

Thank you very much for your help. Any response would be greatly appreciated, but if you have any information other than what I have posted, meaning you know something that I don't already know, that would be best.

The averages probably went up to a 3.67-3.7 this year due to the high volume of applicants. That said, you still have a decent shot. Your essays may come into play since you are most likely a borderline applicant. Your Ecs are fairly average, depending on whether your internship was used effectively in your application. If so, your chances definitely increase.

At this point, it is best to wait it out and know that you did what you could. Good luck!

Thanks! Also, since the averages include out-of-state and international transfers, who are not given priority, can I assume that the averages for CC and UC students is a little lower?

Ohh lol so you posted your essay because of Cali Trumpet’s response. Right on man.

Also, shaq, that may be the case…but I’m not entirely sure. Are you pulling from statfinder or UCLA’s Profile of Admitted Students?

At UCLA’s PAS, you can see the percentage of CC transfers that are accepted into each particular major. I’m not sure if you can also see that for UC-UC though.

The stats are from UCLA’s PAS, but i didn’t know you could see by major AND by what route they are applying.

There are some stats online, but they only divide them up by what UC you’re applying from OR by what major. I can’t look at the poli sci majors from other UCs…or at least I haven’t found that yet :(

Oh right, you’re transferring from a UC. You may be able to get the info you need on statfinder. Check your inbox when you get a chance.

Btw what don’t you like about UCSD? I’m just curious.

There’s nothing particularly WRONG with UCSD, but I always wanted the “typical” college experience I guess (Football team, frat row, yada yada). UCSD has a beautiful campus, right next to the beach, and is amazing if you are a bio-related major. However, for political science UCLA is ranked higher and I just feel as though I would have more opportunities there.
