Hey everyone... I was wondering if anyone could provide a little insight on my chances of getting accepted into UCLA and/or Cal as a transfer student.
I am an out of state student at a California Community College (Santa Barbara City College). I have a 3.65 gpa and will have my IGETC completed along with all of the prep courses for my major, Political Science. I am very involved in the Student Senate at my school and will be the Student Trustee in the upcoming year (the lone student on the Board of Trustees at SBCC).

Anyone have any idea on what my chances are for UCLA/Cal???

If you get California Community College priority to the UC's even though your an out of state student you should have a very good shot at UCLA if you get all your major prerequisite done and have a decent shot at Berkeley. It is very competitive to get in the social science department at Berkeley and your GPA might be average to maybe a little below average. It is important that you show interest and dedication to your major (student government is great way!) and write a good personal statement because Berkeley puts a lot of importance on the personal statement. The most important thing is to keep your GPA up and finish all your prerequisites. But if you are considered an out of state student and do not get CCC priority it will be rather difficult to get into ethier school.

I'd say you have a good chance to get into UCLA, Berkeley may be a little bit harder. But I know lots of poli sci majors who got in with a 3.6/3.7. But your best EC would be your student trustee position-- so make sure that's what you emphasize in your personal statement.

I got into Berkeley for PoliSci with a 3.4 (first semester 2.9 and 4.0's ever since though) and I was missing a prereq. As long as you give them a compelling reason (i.e. an incredible essay and a great life story), they will let you in. Remember GPA isn't everything; nor are EC's (I had next to none!). It's what you bring to the table as a human, not a student, that really gets them going. They like to foster creative thought and believe in diversity, and realize that a bunch of 4.0 squares won't create a viable environment for "out of the box" thinking. I'd say you're basically in at ooh-claw right now, so keep up the work and be sure to write about what you do BESIDES SCHOOL and you're looking really good.

just not really interested in it anymore. like, i really enjoy american government and i believe in our system, but its a dirty game and i dont want to be involved in that. i might stick with it and go to grad school for something else, but as of right now im looking for other options.

I think it really depends on your major. But usually, if you get at least a 3.5+ or better, fulfill your IGETC requirements, then you should be fine.

I applied to all my UCs from DeAnza College as a film major. I got into everything except for UCLA because their film college is really hard to get into. But I did get into Berkeley with a 3.4 GPA. And from what I hear about PoliSci transfers to Berkeley, you should be able to get in easily. Good luck.

yeah i had extra currics..few club stuff..some political work. i thought my essays were decent..but who knows right? guess that's why they only take 23%
