I am currently a student at FAU, but my dream is to go to UF. I am only a freshman and have 20 credits. Now, I know I need 60 in order to transfer and I’m trying to decide on my choices. I currently have a 3.5 GPA (will go up after this semester) and I’m an English major.
My question is this:
Should I stay at FAU and finish my AA? Or should I go to Santa Fe?
I am from Jacksonville so I’d be moving much closer to home. Plus Santa Fe is cheaper and I know UF gives priority to SF students.
I have emailed UF and Santa Fe many times and have asked them the question but haven’t obtained a clear answer.
I think that I’d be happier going to Santa Fe because I want to live in Gainesville more than anything.
Thanks!
@Wingchaser UF does not prioritize Santa Fe students over other public state colleges. If you move closer to home, that’s great. You can also stay at FAU and earn an AA degree as an English major. Either way in addition to having your AA degree, be sure to have 2 sophomore level English classes.
It says online that while it might not specifically be just for Santa Fe, there is a Florida statute that says priority must go to students transferring from a state college with an AA degree @Melissa96 …so is this not true?
@wingchaser not quite, the rule was changed to transferring from a Florida public with an AA degree.
@Melissa96 UF’s website states that “Florida state college students (formerly Florida community colleges) who will have an AA degree awarded are given admission priority under the state’s articulation agreement. However, space availability still makes admission competitive” – do students applying from another 4-year university in Florida (for instance, FSU) fall under the “florida state college students” umbrella?
No. Unfortunately it’s only for Community colleges. I have emailed them and advisors have told me there is a preference for CC students who have received their AAs. You are almost guaranteed acceptance.
Wow, didn’t know this, had told my kids worse case, go to UCF or FSU and get good grades and can transfer to UF after AA. CC is usually easier to earn an A in a class. You are saying that a student with a 3.5 and an AA at FSU has less of a chance than a CC student with a 3.5 at SFCC? Both are “admissions competitive” GPAs but because of articulation agreement will give preference to SFCC student?
@OldLady21 There’s a lot of confusion about this. My understanding from what I’ve been told is that anyone coming from a florida public college OR university who has their AA is given priority over those without the AA and coming from florida private/out of state schools.
So do you think I should just try my best here, or transfer to the community college before I receive my AA?
Just try your best! I know tons of people from other 4 year universities that have gotten is a transfer. Just make sure you have your AA by the time you apply, best of luck!
