Transfer to UF

Hello,

I am new to this site and have been looking around, but wanted to see what you guys think. I am trying to transfer to UF in the Spring of 2010, with the major of Political Science. I got my AA in Spring 2009 with a 3.62 and all A's in my prereqs (INR, CPO, Stats, POS). I am waiting an extra semester for financial reasons, but I was wondering if a 3.62 as my overall GPA is good (will have another A for Spanish I took over the Summer, bringing it to a 3.643). Is a 4.0 in my prereqs a strong point as well? I am going to take 4 more classes this semester at my CC, which will bring me to around 78 credits (limit is 90. I will also have a 3.7 if I get all A's in the Fall, which I plan on doing.). I was in the Honors Society and have worked through all of my first two years of college. Sorry for the short post, I have to go right now. If you need anymore information let me know, I didn't know what else to really post. Oh yeah, I applied to FSU and UNF as my back up schools. Thanks!

UF is a sucker for Florida community college kids. With the budget cuts they have even cut opportunities to get into some programs for kids from 4-year florida universities to allow for more CC people to have opportunities. I think you should be fine with that GPA, getting in as a transfer is pretty easy. That means you’ll also easily get into FSU and UNF. Worst case situation, your a nole, but I think the gators will snatch you first. Good luck.

Thanks so much. I really hope so! I grew up in Gainesville and even though I only have a 3.64 (I know not great :frowning: ), I worked my butt off. I was wondering if you have this opinion from prior experience? Anyone else?

Really, UF is my first choice, but I am most worried about getting accepted there. They have a lot of Poly Sci students and I am not very confident. :(

When you said with my GPA, did you mean a 3.64 or 3.7? I won’t have a 3.7 until the end of the year. I am applying with a 3.64.

Seems you really want to go to UF and more power to you, but FSU has a better Political Science program.

If you are going for Political Science, are you considering law school?

My experience is limited to me knowing a few who have transferred into UF. It is the cream of the crop for Florida schools, most people look at it like an Ivy League when they go to high school in Florida. However, transferring in is so much different than getting in from high school. If you go to Santa Fe and get a 3.6, you are pretty much guaranteed admission.

Don’t stress but stay focused, you’ll be fine. If you were applying from somewhere out of state or even from a Florida 4-year university then getting in would be a little more reach but your golden right now where you are. Just make sure you have more to show for yourself than a decent GPA on that app.

Well, I went to BCC (which is the same as Sante Fe, just in Brevard County). So thanks again! You at least made me feel better about myself. The only problem is I have to work a lot, so I don’t really have many EC. I have Phi Theta Kappa, and working. Hopefully that is enough, but I doubt it. We will see I guess. Yes, I knew FSU had a better Political Science program, which is why I won’t be too bummed out about getting into FSU. Just my dad went to UF and I grew up there and that whole thing. Anyway, thanks again for you help! I appreciate it! If I only I could be as confident as you say I should be! :)

Yeah, I plan on going to law school at either Cornell, Vandy, or UF. I was going to transfer to Cornell over the summer, but it was way too expensive for undergraduate alone and I have scholarships here in Florida (I was surprised because I have good grades, but not the best and Cornell sent me all the information and when I talked to them, they wanted me to go there).

Cornell has some good financial aid programs that don’t revolve around the dreaded FAFSA, but it’s understandable. Bright Futures takes care of student’s here and makes them want to stay.

I wanted to go to Law School at one point but the idea of working 80 hours a week for the rest of my life got to me. All the power to you if you do it. UF is an affordable law school so it won’t force you to practice something you don’t want to in order to pay off your debt.

Thanks for all your help man, I really appreciate it. I am a little bit more confident about getting into UF (still don’t think I will!). Hopefully I do, I would be the happiest person alive! Good luck at UNC as well, I saw you posted about it.

Anyone else have any thoughts or opinions, I am really nervous (and wishing I would of got some higher grades as well)!!!
