Transfer to UIUC

I applied in September for early admission as a transfer applicant. I currently attend CC in Illinois and I’m unsure of my chances. I am planning on transferring in Fall of 2017.

Major: atmospheric science
college gpa: 3.80 only including the transferable college credit (3.67 if you calculate in the non-college credit courses)
Credits: 65

EC: I’m in 2 honor societies at my community college. I am also vice president of one of them, phi theta kappa. I work a job. I am enrolled in the honors program at my community college, I will be able to graduate with honors. I’ve made dean’s list every semester.

I called the admissions office last week to ask about a class, and I also asked when I will be notified of my decision and I was told I should find out mid December and they won’t ask me for my fall semester transcripts since I have more than 60 credits. I sent in everything on time.

Every time I log into myillini, my status just says “complete” but I’ve noticed on here other people’s status says “You will have your decision …”

I visited campus not too long ago and my major is very small at UIUC but UIUC is #4 for my major. I was told I have a solid chance of getting in since I’m a transfer and my major is very small so theres space.

Does UIUC admit transfer students on a rolling basis? I will be submitting my transfer application in 2 weeks but I always assumed decisions would be released around mid-April.

I am confused too. The mid-December notification date is for those transfer applicants seeking admission into Spring 2017, for which the application deadline was mid-Oct. You say you filed in Sep seeking “early admission” but then say you are seeking Fall 2017 admission. The transfer application deadline for Fall 2017 is March 1, 2017. I am unaware of any “early admission” period for Fall 2017 transfers. There is a “priority” filing period where applying by Feb 1 gives you somewhat of a better chance of admission in Fall than if you wait to March 1, but no Fall transfer admission decisions should be released until next spring.

I applied literally the last day of the deadline, and got my acceptance decision right before Thanksgiving for Math&CS as my first choice.

I would say you have a “very good” chance of getting in, as long as you completed most of the pre-reqs. Just wait till December 15, and they’ll release it. My status was always “Complete” and I was checking It every day. Then one day I opened my application and it said “You’re an Illini!”.

@QuantumObserver Thank you! DO you think they will ask for my fall transcripts? I actually only have 33 TRANSFERABLE credit hours. Because I did dual credit in high school. There are no pre-recs to enter as a junior into my program. I actually finished a lot of junior courses too but it wasn’t recommended. I’m afraid I will be denied for the fall. I have no problem with sending my transcripts again.

I still think there is some confusion going on here. QuantumObserver said he got his acceptance right before Thanksgivng but does not say whether that is for entry into the Spring 2017 semester or Fall. He also mentions he applied the last day of the application deadline, but the only application deadline that existed before now was the Oct 15 deadline for entry into Spring 2017. In essence, it sounds like QuantumObserver applied for and was admitted to Spring semester that starts in January and I would not assume from his comments that your decision is coming by mid-Dec If normal processes are followed, you should submit your first semester grades when they come out because you will still be waiting for a decision if you requested Fall 2017 admission rather than Spring.

As to chances, you have now added information that raises some questions. You intially said you had 65 credits. Now you say you have 33 transferable credits and the reason it is only 33 is because you did dual credit in high school. I am not sure what you mean by that. College courses that are normally transferable for credit will be transferable for credit to UIUC even if taken while in high school except for courses used to meet requirements needed to graduate from high school. I am not sure if you are limiting your comment to those.

I asume you will have more courses completed by the time you will actually transfer in Fall 2017 because you will need them to transfer into “junior” year. You mention there are no pre-reqs for atmospheric science. The department that has the major does not, like other departments, make anything an actual "requirement’ for admission so it can have some leeway to admit good candidates who might be missing a course requirement. But for entry into junior year the department lists in the transfer handbook “highly recommended” college courses that it would like for you to complete before transferring, including completion of the language requirement, calculus through level 3, and four physics courses. See p.6 in https://www.admissions.illinois.edu/Content/docs/Handbook_LAS.pdf If you are missing any of those, particularly more than one, your probability of admission will be lower than your current GPA indicates.

@drusba lol no. I do have dual credit from high school. As of right now I have 56 total credit hours. but since i took dual credit in high school they were below 100 level. so anything below 100 level courses do not transfer to any university even if they are offered at community colleges and university. SO with 33 credits i have a 3.80 gpa. I will enter as a junior. I already emailed about the Spanish because I still need two more semesters of Spanish and U of I said for LAS it is just a recommendation not a requirement and it no longer has an impact on admission decisions anymore. I actually finished more junior level courses such as calculus and physics and other stuff that would be required for my junior year at CC. So by the time I transfer in the fall of 2017, i will have about 77 credit hours from my community college. I emailed the school and asked about if they want my fall transcripts and they said the application process committee reviewed my application and determined that I have enough credits and grades to evaluate my application where they will not ask me for my fall transcripts and only my final if I am admitted. I also emailed again when I will find out about my decision and they said it really depends when the committee finishes reviewing spring transfers and freshman that I could be processed in that bunch. But at the latest I will find out my decision prior to February.

Also, I also wrote in my application that I am comfortable as entering as a sophomore because my major tends to take longer than four years since it generally is hard.

@AudgeM You might want to look more into the foreign language requirement. Admissions into UIUC is one thing. Graduating with a LAS degree is different. LAS used to require 4 college semesters (or 4 yrs hs) or a combo…

I got accepted to UIUC as a transfer student and was notified on January 11th 2017! nothing in my post has changed! @MerryLee

Congratulations!

I got accepted as a transfer student today 3.9gpa accounting major. This is my backup and USC is my first choice.

@pomeranian4rich Congrats! When did you apply?

Just got admitted to College of Business as an Accountancy major. 4.0 GPA. Timeline is as follows.

Jan. 24 - Submitted application
Jan. 26 - Application marked as complete (electronic transcripts speed things up)
Jan. 31 - Received acceptance on portal. No notification.

anyone admitted in CS+X?

What are my chances of getting into the DGS overall as a student I would say everything is mediocre. High school gpa was a 3.04 a couple of honors course included and former member of the French honors society. I’m currently at freshman at Bradley university with a 3.0 gpa involved in a variety of clubs ( black excellence club, French club, American Sign Language club, fashion and design) 22 ACT score. Essay was pretty good wrote about wanting to start my own line of hair, skin, and nail products as well as create my own art for branding and advertising.

@monenia07 UIUC DGS is not a degree program. I think the max a student can be DGS is 2 years. A student would still need to eventually select and be admitted to a degree program at UIUC.

Got accepted today!! Submitted my application on January 26, UIUC received all my materials on January 30. I have been checking every day for an update but I finally received an acceptance today  Hope everyone hears back from UIUC soon!

I’m aware I am applying to be a sophomore during fall 2017 and have less than 30 transferable hours.
