Im currently in my first semester (freshmen) at Umass Boston. My SAT score is 1630 (Math 630, Writing 530, Reading 470). Majoring in Economics. I haven't received my proper GPA yet but lets assume i get a 3.0 or higher. I have decent eca's, including photography society and i am also the event manager of Enactus Umass Boston. What are my chances to transfer to Umass Amherst in fall 2014? Thanks!

Makanana, your stats are very very mediocre. There are tons of UMass students trying to transfer into UMass Amherst. I would say since you’re only using one semester’s GPA to apply for transfer it should be at least above a 3.4. A 3.0 will not cut it. If you’re using a cumulative GPA of 1 school year, it should be above a 3.3. Good Luck.

I’m transferring to Umass Amherst for the fall of 2014. I currently attend SUNY Albany as a freshman and have a 3.67 GPA for my first semester. I will have finished 30 credits by the end of the year. I’m the founder and president of a club here, and I’m involved in other clubs as well. Can you please let me know what you think my chances are?

If you are already in one of the umass schools the require gpa to transfer is 2.5. So i would say you do have a chance, you have a better chance of getting accepted as transfer then you would if you are applying straight from high school. That what I am trying to do as well to transfer next fall as well.

Yr5665, your chances are great. I’d say you’re a high match for what the school is looking for. Coolguys bear in mind that the minimum required GPA does not mean the desired GPA. 3.0 is very mediocre by any means it is just slightly above the 2.5-2.9 range. A strong candidate should have a 3.3 or higher as I’ve said before.

Can anyone give me their opinion on my chances?
