Transfer to UMich, UIUC or UToronto

Hello all! My boy friend is considering transferring to Michigan (LSA-Computer Science), UIUC (Math & Computer Science) or UToronto (Computer Science) as a junior student. Any suggestion? Thanks.

where is he at the moment?

If he is considering going to Canada... I think you should consider Waterloo. It has the strongest CS department in all of Canada. They compete in the annual ACM programming competition and usually get at least the top 1-2 in North America (beating MIT, Caltech, Carnegie Mellon, Michigan, UIUC, Toronto). I'd definitely have a look if I were you.

Thanks. He's at NY now. And he knows that he wants to go to a comprehensive research-oriented (although he'd rather end up as a professional) university. Any other advice on the academic comparison among the 3?

Utoronto computer science is very strong, however, i must agree Waterloo's computer science is superior, you should definitely look in to it

It comes down to UIUC or UWaterloo. Add Carnegie Mellon and UTexas-Austin into the list also.

I'd say Michigan and UIUC are pretty good schools for CS. He'll be challenged and there will be enough bright students there that will keep him motivated. Toronto CS is also pretty good, but I'd say its quality is a tad lower than Mich and UIUC. I think most of the students who want to persue a CS degree go to Waterloo instead (in Canada).

I'd really suggest you put Carnegie Mellon and Waterloo in your list. Carnegie Mellon has been known to pump out good CS students into the market... hired by lots of big name companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon... But also Waterloo is known to be the place where Microsoft comes to recruit. To what I've heard... Bill Gates visits the campus regularly. Also, if he is into starting his own business in the IT industry... Waterloo is a great place to go. A lot of the students get involved in getting help from the school to start up their own businesses. RIM (Research in Motion) is just across the street... which helps students out a lot...

michigan is obviously the best out of all the schools that were listed.

You OBVIOUSLY don't know the schools that were listed.

UIUC and UToronto? are you kidding me?
and even though it wasn't listed by the OP, i've never even heard of waterloo.

so OBVIOUSLY your comments aren't credible, you don't even know all of the schools OP listed. Waterloo U is one of the best computer/math schools out there. It's not just all about the ivies you know.
but then again, i can understand why you are so ignorant, you are from UMich, i can't really blame you

haha wow. what in the world are you so angry about?
most people here have probably never heard of waterloo as well.
stop hating. and yes, i'd still say that michigan is better than uiuc and utoronto. therefore, my comment is credible. the end.
