Transfer to UNC

Hey,

Currently, I'm freshman at NCSU, trying to transfer to UNC CH next year. I was waitlisted then denied admission out of high school and I wanted to transfer after sophomore year to UNC. My HS GPA was 4.5 weighted and 3.2 unweighted. SAT: 1820/2400

I didn't do my best during the first semester at State (2 C's, 2 B's, 2 A's). I have better grades this semester. I plan on working 10x harder and get straight A's from now on. I was wondering if I could get in next year from the upward trend in my grades or is it too late? I have good EC's as well.

Another question, would my essays bear more weight?

Thanks for your help!

Hey bud, figured I could help you out a bit. I was accepted to UNC last Friday as a junior transfer with 75+ hours and I am still trying to get over the shock. I am currently at my 3rd university and UNC would make it 4 if I choose to attend. My GPA at the time of submitting my app was ~3.05, but I had just come off a 4.0 semester. So yes, a positive trend is always good. My essays, in my opinon, are why I got in. I believe they were excellent and truly showed what type of individual I am.

So yes, I think that if you really work hard in the classroom the next few semesters and write outstanding essays, you will have a good shot at getting accepted.

Traditionally, state schools place more weight on tangible statistics, such as college GPA, than they do on intangibles, such as the essays. That being said, try your best to achieve the highest GPA possible, but don’t slack on your essays either.

Good luck.

@texasboy15 Thanks you for your reply and Congrats on getting in!!

I’m a current freshman at State too and was just accepted as a sophomore transfer at UNC. Definitely bring up those grades because they will definitely focus more on your college grades if you’re applying as a junior transfer. And as for the essay, I’m not quite sure how much weight it carries (honestly I thought mine was a little lackluster), but it can’t hurt to write an amazing essay. Good luck!

@haygirlhay congrats on getting in!

Sorry for the bump, but any of you guys that got accepted as junior transfers mind posting your stats?

I am considering transferring to UNC for Fall 2012 but I have a lot of concerns and I was wondering if maybe you guys could help me out. I am currently a Boston University first-semester sophomore and have a 3.08 GPA as of Spring 2011. I am unsure of my chances of getting in. Also I am not sure if first semester junior year is kind of late to transfer. Do any of you have advice for me? Thanks!
