Transfer to University of Miami

Hi Everyone, I applied to University of Miami in December as a transfer, and am awaiting my admissions decision. Just wondering if anyone knows from experience what kind of shot i have at getting in? They do not ask for any highschool stats since i have over 30 credits so will only post college!

Transfer into Comm school:

37 credits with a transfer gpa of 3.87..
Had an internship with IMG in Coral gables, and volunteer at Shake a leg (UM highly involved with this institution)

Does anyone know what kind of shot I have at getting in??? I am really nervous so would like to hear opinions

THANKS!

come on, someone help! I will respond back to your threads... :( ?

I'll take you up on your offer.

You have a very good chance. A 3.87 GPA with volunteer work, I think your in pretty good shape.

thanks!! I hope so... I think my GPA should be high enough since the average is 3.48 it says... So what question can i help you out with?? :)

I would be incredibly shocked if you did not get in

Thanks!! I really hope so, I am so nervous and can't believe I have to wait until Mid-April! Does anyone else have an opinion, or know anyone who has gotten into UM as a transfer, or has done so themselves?? Thanks guys!!

Unless your recs. say you're a terrible person that punches old ladies, you're definitely in.

Thanks! I really hope so, I am just so nervous waiting! Do you think maybe with the economy being so bad right now they will not let in as many students though? That's my main concern..

I applied for spring transfer a few months back and was accepted less than 2 days after the app was complete (with credit evaluation and everything), but I guess fall doesn't have rolling admissions. I too would be shocked if you didn't get in though.

oh wow! nice to hear from someone who got in, what was your GPA when you transferred in, and do you like it at UM?

I had a 3.94, but I chose not to attend. I am currently at Cornell which I love so far, well, outside of the miserably cold weather (I am from FL too).

anyone else with any thoughts?? about my chances.. will chance you back..

I have a friend who transferred into UM and he had I think around a 3.2 gpa and he got in but he was doing Nursing. He left though saying most UM kids are spoiled brats and the school was way to expensive for him.

I guess he didn't look at the school too much before he got in but he was happy UM had an affliation with a big Hospital forget the name of it I think its Memorial Hospital one of the big ones.

oh wow ok thanks!! that made me feel better.. haha yea i already know all about the people who go there since I live here!! haha

I just got accepted as a transfer today. I had a 3.8 GPA and 30 credits. I was also in student government, model UN, won awards, etc.

I'm sure you're totally fine. Check your admissions status online, that's how I found out I was accepted. My letter hasn't even come in yet.

Congrats! I also got accepted on Tuesday!! Go us :) did you find out about your financial aid package yet?? I think it will come in the mail when we get our letters, at least I hope we will get financial aid! UM is expensive!! but i am so happy i got in!

yay! i totally just checked now and got in!

i have a 3.4 gpa from a CUNY, with ballet being my only extracurricular activity, along with full time work. woo!

Congrats to both of you! I bet you're just as excited as I am.

I got my acceptance letter in the mail today. I didn't apply for financial aid so I'm not really sure about that. I've heard that you just have to keep applying for scholarships etc. and that alot of people pay for it that way mostly.

Do you guys know anything about the housing there? I know transfers aren't guaranteed housing, but I'd really like to live on campus! I'd also like to try to get into a sorority, but I'm not really sure how to go about that.

I guess there's alot I need to find out about.

Hey everyone,
I am yet another wary students who is curious about their chances of getting accepted. As of right now I have a 4.0 GPA at St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, NY. I transferred to STAC from Rutgers University with a 3.2 GPA as a chemistry major, but I have switched my major to Psychology. I am a member of the school’s newspaper as well as an active member of both Psychology club and the school’s Gay-Straight Alliance. I work for the school as a tutor in English, Psychology, and French. On the side, I volunteer to take notes for those accepted under the terms and conditions of the special education program offered at STAC. I do have more than 30 credits, so not much is needed for my application. Also, I was wondering if me being out of state (I live in NJ) diminishes my chances of getting accepted, even though it is a private university? What are my odds people?!
