Transfer to University of Michigan

I have some confusion about where I stand as far as chances are concerned, and some help would be much appreciated. I am a junior in high school with college apps bearing down on me and no hope of getting into the U of M.

my current high school stats:
GPA:2.34
Honors:nothing
AP:nothing (although there is a good chance I will be taking AP calc next year but to be safe I am assuming the worst)
EC:Varsity Cross Country/Track
SAT/ACT: Predicted in the high 1300-1400's/28-31 respectively but again, to be safe I'm assuming low 1100-1200's/22-25.

Now, before you dismiss me as an idiot please hear me out. While not highly motivated in the way of formal academics I am an avid self learner of things as they relate to my future major/profession and skills which will make me valuable in the job market. I enjoy dedicating hours every day towards C++ game programming and the physics/math needed. If programming was a valid path to choose in my high school's curriculum (instead of the broad spectrum of subjects required by what I believe to be a flawed American education system) I would have an easy 4.0 hands down.

Now that you know a little bit about me here's the question I came here to ask: If transferring from either Western Michigan University or a local comunity college, what are the numbers I would have to put up in order to be given a shot at U of M's engineering school? Could I get there after one year at WMU or CC or two (three? four? ten? never?!)? This is with all those horrible stats outlined above.

All I'm asking for are some rough ideas or numbers here.

Thank you for your time,
Corporate America

If you want to apply after a year of college (30 credits or so), you should have a decent SAT (1250) or ACT (27) score. HS GPA won't matter too much. You'll want to have at least college GPA of 3.5 to be a good candidate for engineering (with mostly A's and nothing less than a B in math classes). Also, people on these threads stress SAT and ACT scores a lot but if you're a JR transfer (55-60 credits), then HS GPA and ACT/SAT don't matter at all at Umich if you have a really decent COLLEGE GPA.

Corporate,

I would suggest you REALLY hit the books and everything extremely hard in college if you would like to get into the U of M. I was recently accepted after being deferred. I am currently at Grand Valley State University with a 3.95 GPA. I also work full-time and do extensive volunteer work. It's a difficult path to follow, but if you want it bad enough, you can do it.

Matt

GVSU eh? I go to GRCC. Hopefully there is a considerable contingent of Grand Rapids area students going to UMich as transfers.

I got in after a semester and a half semester at UM-Dearborn. 2.4ish core classes in HS, 30 ACT, no EC, 4.0 college gpa.

It can be done.
