Transfer to UPENN

I will be applying to Penn for Fall 2006 and i wanted an honest opinion on my stats. I graduated HS in 2003 with a very poor gpa, rank, and SATs (i basically got rejected from every college i applied to). I didn't try at all during high school and didn't take anything seriously. I took a year off after graduation and worked full-time and finally got a wake-up call. I enrolled in community college the next fall in 2004. Did pretty well, 3.8 cumulative gpa (but with one W each semester). During community college, I applied to Rutgers and Temple (got rejected during high school) and got accepted into both for fall 2005. I entered Rutgers for fall 2005 and completed 12 credits with a 3.875 gpa (but once again with a W, should've completed 15 credits).

So I was wondering if I should even try applying to UPENN since my HS credentials are so poor, and I was also wondering if the W's will matter that much. Do I even have a slight chance? Also, most of my classes are from a business-core curriculum and I would really want to apply to wharton. If that is too far-fetched, I would apply to the College at Penn as an Econ major. Also, I will be applying as an incoming sophomore because I will not have enough credits to be considered a junior by next fall. Any comments or suggestions would help. Thanks.

How many credits will you have? I had a lackluster highschool experience, but am applying to Penn as a junior with grade similar to yours. I have 61 credits completed now, and by the time I would enter Penn, I'd have about 80 credits (20 of course will dropped).

i have 30 credits right now, and will have around 48 completed by next fall. i will be applying as a sophomore, and the website says its easier to enter as a sophomore because there are more available spaces. but does anybody have any comments about my chances?

if u had an abysmal high school record, one semester worth of grades at a community college won't be enough to get into a place like UPenn.

bball: He has 2 semesters of Community College and one at Rutgers. Try reading next time.

yeah, thanks 'screenname'. it is 2 semesters at community, 1 at rutgers, also taking a winter class right now. and im pretty sure penn will ask for my spring grades later in may

anybody else with comments?

hate to say it but doubtful imo. just not that strong of a resume

How many credits do you have?

had to take a couple of non-transferrable classes at the cc, so i have 30 at the moment. will have 48 by fall 2006.

i also have pretty good ec's (mainly church stuff) and community service in west philly if that matters.

and i'm also considering sending applications to cornell cas and nyu stern.

i think aiming for an ivy might be shooting high

nyu stern sounds more likely, and they're almost as good as wharton in some depts.

yeah, so far i've applied to purdue, umd-college park, ohio state, indiana univ-bloomington, cuny-baruch, and RIT.

ivy league does seem like im shooting high, but i wanted to try at least one. i'm scratching cornell off the list because the aem program requires 6 creds of bio, so its either PENN SAS or NYU Stern that i'll apply to.

can anybody give me reach schools i should go for? if you look at the post before this, those are the schools i have applied to recently, and i want to apply to at least 2 more schools that are more selective and have better accounting/finance programs. thanks.

how about UIUC? They have an excellent accounting program. The business school there is pretty selective.

couple of friends i know go there, i visited the campus and that place is just not for me. i'm considering applying to georgetown and stern and just forgetting about penn.

hey jL_visionz I'm kind of in the same boat as you, except I'm a year behind you... that is, I'm still in my first year of community college. Just wanted to say good luck dude, cause I know how you feel; I didn't do jack in high school even though I'm very smart, so now I'm trying to salvage everything and go to Univ. of MD next year, hopefully, although I only have a 3.0 gpa in CC as of now, looking to raise it to a 3.4 by May. Good luck to both of us fckups, lol

hahaha nicee. good luck to you too man.
