transfer to Urbana-Champaign possible with a rather low GPA?

Although a lot of my professors have deemed me to be a brilliant student, my tendency to procrastinate has gotten the better of me on many occasions, hence I am where I am right now.

I'm sitting on a GPA of 2.7, wondering if its possible to transfer over to Urbana-Champaign with what I have.

I have completed 45 credit hours as of today, mostly with grades such as B's and some C's, with the occasional A.
I am on my college's speech team.
I volunteer with the Sierra Club.
I work part time.

I don't really know what I can write about myself right now, but that's what I got off the top of my head.

Is there a decent chance of me being able to get into Urbana-Champaign, because I'm thinking that writing a damn good essay and getting a bunch of recommendation letters might not be enough to get me in. :P

I’m applying as well with exactly the same amount of credits. First of all, it is hard to determine your chance without knowing your major. Second of all, U of I doesn’t accept letters of recommendation. Finally, the essay topics are posted online just in case you didn’t already know.

Ahh, my major is Political Science; i forgot to mention that.

Although the minimum transfer GPA for LAS is a 2.7, you should have a solid shot because you are going to apply as junior standing. So long as your essays are good, your major shouldn’t hold you back from getting in because it isn’t that selective.
