I was wondering what my chances are if i transfer to UT next year. Right now I go to A&M at Galveston and have around a 3.44-3.5. I want to get into Biology or Biochemistry. What do you think my chances are? thanks

Your best bet would be to get that GPA up as much as possible; you do have a really good chance with a 3.5. If I were you, I’d do an external transfer into Liberal Arts college, this will ensure your admittance into UT-Austin, then you can do an internal transfer to Sciences from there. That being said, make sure you get good letters of recommendation from your Professors @ A&M Galveston. Anything you can add onto your resume is a plus: ec’s, charity, etc. GPA isn’t everything. The 2 transfer essays are very, very crucial as well.

@RRutter: Huh?

I thought that in order to have a good shot at UT Austin, you needed at least around a 3.75 GPA (to transfer of course). Of course I’m just looking at high school GPA, so perhaps they might be slightly more lax on college transfer (then again, I am in a community college, so they might have higher expectations for me).

We’re talking about transferring, not applying to UT out of High School. Obviously High School GPA is a different ballgame… But that’s off-topic.
