Transfer to UVA

Hi I'm currently a freshman at Emory University interested in transfering to a B school with better Wall Street recruiting. I noticed that UVA, like Emory, have students finish two years of prerequisites before accepting them into B school. If i want to transfer to UVA, should I transfer after this year, or should I wait one more year and transfer straight to the B school? I know that on the website UVA recommends transfer students transfer straight to B school, but if I do get in UVA as a sophmore, I want to get use to the environment first before going into B school. Any thoughts?

Another reason why I'd like to transfer this year is that I don't want to compete with UVA students getting into B school. I figured it would be tough to transfer in B school when other UVA students are applying also.

mm... no response??

As a second-year transfer, I vote do it as soon as possible, because like you said, it's easier to get adjusted. It might also be easier to get into McIntire as a UVA student, rather than try to transfer AND get in. Then again, if you apply for your third year into McIntire you don't get accepted, you can stay at Emory's b-school and get the degree you want without risking coming here and not being accepted to McIntire. So, it's a toss up.

However, overall I suggest trying to apply for your second year, because if you can get into UVA as a transfer from Emory, you probably have good enough grades to get into McIntire as a UVA student. And while I think applying straight to McIntire for third-year is a safe jump (again, if you get rejected, you're not screwed out of a major you want, whereas if you came here, then got rejected, you'd be stuck in CLAS with a major you might not want), it also poses a huge risk that you will never attend UVA. So, if you really do want to go to UVA, I'd apply for your second year.

If you have any transfer specific questions (application, life here, etc), feel free to ask me or some of the other transfers lurking around.

thank you so much for the response

I've a couple questions
I took the ACT twice when I was in high school
First time: Math 29, English 18, Reading 29, Science 22
Second time: Math 34, English 34, Reading 20, Science 27, and essay 10

I screwed up on the reading second time because I bubbled in the answers one space off, leaving almost half of my answers one off from the circle that I wanted to bubble in. Anyway, since UVA doesn't superscore the ACT, should I retake ACT/SAT? Without superscore my second ACT composite is 29. With superscore, it's 31.

Should I also take Toefl? I moved here to the united states four years ago from Taiwan, so English is not my native language. I find the Toefl a lot easier than the SAT.

I'm not sure how transferring into McIntire works -- I'd contact them directly and see what they say. I always was under the impression that you had to take comm prereqs at UVA before you could apply to McIntire. You'll get a solid answer from them and will be able to direct you the right way.

If you want a solid answer about the ACT, look at the medians for accepted students (google UVA Common Data Set) and see if your score falls in the range that you want it to. If it doesn't re-take.

As for the TOEFL, call admissions. That's a very technical question, and you might have to take it anyways.
