I am a freshman at Union College in Upstate New York. Its a good small liberal arts college, highly ranked (37th top tier nationally according to USNews), but its not for me. I am going to transfer for spring term of 2007 hopefully, and I am considering many competitive schools, not least among them WashU, just wanted to know if it was even worth my time. Its worth noting that this is considered a good springboard school, and last year several people transferred to Cornell, Brown, Georgetown, WashU etc. Oh, and I am from Alabama originally.
My college GPA so far is a 3.8, I made a 1430 on the old SAT (800 verbal, 630 math) I am a very good essay writer as well. My extracurrics are maybe slightly thin. I am a part of Hillel, several clubs, host a weekly radio show, play broomball, and have a good comm. service record throughout high school and some in college. I plan on doing something interesting this summer, looking to become active on campus in other ways if possible. Thanks alot in advance.
I appreciate any help.

can anyone help?

Go for it. Union is a good school and well respected. Your 3.8 demonstrates you can do well in an academically rigorous environment. Your 1430 on the SAT puts you at just about the median for WashU. It's not a slam dunk by any means, but you're definitely competetive. The worst that could happen is that WashU says no.

thanks alot for your reply. do you know if applying for spring will decrease my chances?

Sorry, no idea.

i applied to transfer for spring 06 and was accepted....but i didn't go. i did not think i would get in bc my application wasn't particularly special. feel free to ask me any questions

how was your application sub-special? and why didn't you go? also, what were your college stats etc. thanks for the reply.

fairytoes,

what are you stats?

btw, hopingtotransfer---i think that you have a good shot at getting in.

i decided not to go for perhaps not very good reasons...i am from the northeast and getting there and back would be cumbersome and expensive (over 900 miles away). also i made many good friends here and have an active life at school, so i didn't know if moving would be beneficial other than academically. my cumulative college gpa was a 3.6 (note i did very badly my first semester freshman year) and my standardized test scores were all very high. i also performed well on all my AP exams.
hope that helps!

yeah. thanks. out of curiosity, where do you go? also, when did you start readying your apps for spring term, and how were your extracurriculars going into the application process?

hopetotransfer- like u, i had no idea what to do for the transfer process and relied heavily on this site for help. if anything else start NOW. my scores arrived late to the schools i applied to bc college board is very slow, and that delayed my decisions and made me think i would get rejected everywhere.
send in your dean reports, call AP to send your scores and on the internet through collegeboard if u haven't already. have prof recs filled out soon. i only used two, both were confidential so i don't know how strong they were.
i worked hard on my essays to make up for my sub-par GPA. i put specifically what wash u. had that fit my needs and avoided the whole prestige and wonderfulness route. single spaced it was about a page and a half.
i don't feel comfortable posting personal info here so if u have more questions u can pm me.
your EC's look very good. better than mine. bc i am work-study all i had was my employment experience. i was very surprised i got in, and am sure you will get accepted.

your gpa is really not that bad for a transfer
