Hi,

I would be glad for any advice. I used to be visit these forums often when applying for college the first time around and never figured I'd be back as a sophomore (sry if this post is long)

I entered Brown Univ as a PLME student (their 8 year medical program). After a lot of soul-searching and extreme conflict with my family, I decided to quit the program for many reasons, the primary one being that I realized that I did not in my heart want to be a doctor, and felt I had talents that could be utilized better in other fields. This happened at the end of my freshman year, and the emotional fallout with my family was so severe that I ended up only passing 2 courses that semester. Total I've passed 7 courses at Brown for freshman year and am now a sophomore.

My GPA stands at a 3.5 (3.75 first semester, 3.0 second). I have a lot of experience with community service organizations at Brown (worked in homelessness, STD prevention, coordinator for a relationship abuse coalition this year). I am very interested in art/art theory (but as this was forbidden from me for the greater part of my life- my family is messed up), I've only taken one intro art course so far. I also have a deep interest in poetry and poetic theory (and have been told by my teacher that I'm really talented, so I guess I could submit writing samples) and am taking 2 poetry courses this semester. As a major I would like to pursue cultural/sociological theory.

My reason for transferring- There are a lot of not-so-good memories here, for various reasons, one of which was depression and emotionally abusive relationship during my freshman year, and the family stuff. I'd just like to make a fresh start.

The thing is, I was accepted into Yale as a hs senior. But I presented myself as a completely different person, one really interested in science research and really into medicine. If I applied it would be almost as a completely different person. So what do you all think my chances are of getting into a place like Yale? Do they take into account the fact that I was accepted the first time around?
