I came to this forum to ask questions, but Im catching some wierd things about transfer system.

Yale's website points out that their average transfer applicant's GPA is 3.8.
ONLY 3.8

Some of you might call me crazy for saying "ONLY", but Yale's acceptance rate is 2~3%(about 25/1000)
This means that out of 1000 applicants, they picked out THE MOST competitive or best fitting 25 people... and what? they came up with an average of only 3.8 GPA?
This is ridiculous.
This means there could be about half 3.6 and half 4.0.
Or ALL around 3.8
Many ways to intrepret it but its all up to you

I wonder what kind of students get accepted to Yale as transfer? Definitely GPA is not the TOP consideration.

This data tells me nothing but that the 25 students they picked out are either good athletes, reputable donator, or students transferring out of harvard/other ivies, or very very extraordinary students with serious reasons to transfer.
If Yale selectively scraped out only these types of unique students, it wouldnt be surprsing you would get about 30 every year.

Another possibility: Yale picks out about 20~40 students with consistency every year so that they can show other possible transfer applicants that "there is hope". This way Yale will consistently get about 1000 applicants every year and earn $$...I highly doubt though that a prestigious university like Yale would try to gain money by doing such a low-life thing.

Some people say that transfer applicants are like safeties or wild card to fill up spaces, but I really don't think this is the case for Yale.
