So I have a list of top colleges I'll apply to, and some that are safety schools.
Just looking for an honest open opinions and suggestions that could help me.

My list includes: Brown , Cornell , Caltech , Dartmouth , Yale , Northeastern , Northwestern , Stanford , Syracuse , University of Pennsylvania
Any additions or recommendations would be appreciated.

Going to a community college right now, GPA: 3.9 (I'll be switched to a State school for spring)
I'm very sure I can keep it to a 3.7-3.8 after this semester
Part of two international honor societies
Currently in a Federal Senate Internship
Next semester they say I'll easily get my State Senate Internship
For summer I'll be going to the White House Internship

I've stuck to my core requirements at my community college.
I have many extra curricular activities:
Day trading in the stock market, first year 2008 was up 50%
Write a blog on day trading and have taught people all over the world on the subject
Working on my MTA Certified Market Technician Exam
Have had many successful businesses already (I'm 21)
Writing multiple books which will work into movies as well as producing music.

I have recommendations from any of my college professors (high recommendations)
I have recommendations as well as letters of support from my Federal Senator I work with now.

My dream school is of course Yale, I'd like to be President of the United States or high ranking political figure and business man, mostly in banks/finance

I haven't taken my ACT + Writing which is only required by Yale on my list of wanted colleges

Any tips or suggestions will be highly appreciated.
*Note I'm part Native American and both my parents have served prison time(My father most my life), obviously never were around. I've read due to this and my hardships my application might get some sympathy. This isn't something I like but whatever gets me in right?

I can’t see any other way to read it than that you must:

Send ACT or SAT I.
AND

Send at least 2 SAT IIs.

I know that some schools permit the ACT without SAT IIs (like Y), but D does not appear to be one of them.

You might want to take a second look at the rest of your schools to be sure of what they want; for instance, B doesn’t require standardized tests from transfer applicants, but they “encourage” you to submit them. You are targeting some of the most selective schools to transfer to in the nation, so everything counts.

Ya I thought I had gone over the schools, especially D. I really appreciate the help!!
I’m going to print out everything on admissions from these colleges. I should have already done this but I had what I thought I needed already printed out by cut and pasting.

Yes I’m targeting the most selective for sure. I already know I’ll be accepted at State schools so I figured I’d target these schools. Many have said I have at least a chance. I have Yale’s packet and it tells of kids getting in from community colleges. I’ve even read of 3.8’s from a community college in, this is where I’m hoping my extracurricular and internships will come into play.

Did anyone apply to these schools? I’d love to hear opinions!!

I know that the website for Y says that they give special consideration to CC students. Unfortunately, from what I’ve seen in over the past 3 years of transfers, the numbers have been pretty low. My D transferred to Y in fall 2008, she said there was 1 CC transfer the year before, 0-1 her year and 0 in 2009.

In no way am I saying it’s impossible, just that it’s rare, but it is for anybody. As long as you have some rock solid safeties, that makes it reasonable that you’re shooting for some reach schools.

^While I don’t doubt you, I would get that in writing or email if you plan to submit w/o SAT IIs. Otherwise, it’s your word against the link that I gave which is about as explicit as it can get.

You definitely need to do well on the test for these schools. I also suggest looking at Georgetown, Northwestern, WashU, UNC, UVA, and Rice - they have many more open spots for transfers than the Ivies. Georgetown particularly given your political ambitions - its practically an Ivy in the political world.

Obama is 48 years old, I’m very sure you wouldn’t have believed him at 21 years old either.
Nor Bush, nor Clinton, nor most any president at 21 years old.

I believe through enough hard work, “anything is possible”.

I think you’ve got a really solid chance at Y and S. I would highly recommend highlighting the prison thing and getting official reports of your native american heritage (youll be looked at as a URM). Otherwise, I don’t think you have much of a chance. They’re looking for exceptional candidates that have faced exceptional circumstances. Do not play the sympathy card. Shape your personal statements to highlight how you overcame adversary and turned your weaknesses into strengths.

Thanks whatasunnyday this is what I’ve been told also! I’ve definitely overcome much, the whole reason I try so hard is to show people along my paths what is possible. My sympathy is with the 90% that didn’t make it out of their problems who are alike. I feel as though if I don’t try my hardest to get my farthest our youth will believe nothing is possible and continue down the drain. If an average guy like myself can try hard and get anywhere they will believe they can too.

I thank you so much for your reply, it really helped!!

I think we’d all be curious to hear about your acceptance to the summer session of White House internships. After all, they don’t begin accepting applications until December 14.
