Im a freshman, entering my spring semester. For the fall I only completed 11 academic units and 2 units from sports. For the spring Im taking 13 academic units and 3 from sports. So in total I have 29 units. ( 24 academic and 5 from sports).
I assume cal wont give a damn about sports units so I basically only have 24 units.

If I take 6 units for summer, and 15~16units for fall, will I have a chance of having a strong resume in terms of how many units I completed...?

In terms of units, your requirement is that you need 60 UC transferable units by the end of the spring prior to enrollment. You’ll be applying the previous fall, so if you have less than 60 at that point it isn’t going to be an issue. Your application is due at the end of November, but you’ll have until the end of spring to complete 60 semester units (90 if you’re on the quarter system).

You should be using resources like ASSIST.org, your CC counselors, and your CC’s schedule of classes to see which courses are determined as UC transferable and which aren’t. Sports/PE generally aren’t transferable and will not be factored into your UC-transferable gpa nor will they count toward the 60 unit requirement. There are also academic courses that may be CSU transferable, but not UC transferable so you should be using those resources to clarify that. If all your academic classes are UC transferable you should have 24 units, not 29. If any are only CSU transferable you’ll have less.

You also are expected to complete specific lower division requirements that are specific to your major, which you can find on ASSIST.org. Most majors at Berkeley, require your to fulfill specific sequences for you to even be eligible for admission, so be aware of that if you aren’t already. Other UC’s will strongly suggest you to complete those lower division sequences, but some may still admit you if you miss a few. Also, some of the UC’s require you to fulfill a GE equivalent sequence called IGETC or breadth. Your CC should have a list of courses that fulfill those requirements online or at the counseling office.

I’m not sure how much of that you already knew because it sounds like you may just starting figure out all the requirements necessary to transfer. So hopefully, that’s all clear. As far as units per semester, the convention would be to divide it evenly among all semesters. So you’d expect 15 units per regular academic semester. So after fall of sophomore year, roughly 45 semester units.

Hey dilapidatedmind, so if im at say 54 units during fall semester, i could still complete my six remaining units in the spring to count towards my 60 inits?

You don’t send in anything until after you’re accepted and pick the school you’re enrolling at. Then you’ll have to send in your transcripts to that one UC by sometime in mid July. You don’t have to send in any grades before that. During the application process you self report your grades that you’ve completed up until that point. Then in January you update your application with Fall grades that you were still completing when you submitted in November. After you’re accepted and you send in your transcripts to the school of your choice, they’ll go over it to make sure it matches everything you reported and check to see your most recent spring grades.

Yes that’s fine. They just want you to have 60 units by the end of spring. In fact, the majority of people usually will not have all of their units finished by Fall semester. It that were the case, I’m sure a lot of people would end up not taking any units in the spring. If you had 54 units you’d be in a similar position as most other applicants that finish their 60 units after spring.
