Transfer Units

Hello all,

I am a CC student here in So Cal. Up to now, I have completed a total of 84 units, 62 of them being transferrable to UC's. If I'm not mistaken, the MAXIMUM amount of units you can transfer to a UC is 70... With this being said, my question is... If you exceed the allowed 70 transferrable units, how will the college decide WHICH classes to transfer and which classes to leave out? How does this work?

This question came up because this semester I'm taking Linear Algebra, Engineering Physics II, and General Chemistry II, which total up to 14 units for this semester and what would be 76 total transferrable units so I'm not too sure if it's even worth taking all these classes if some of them might not even transfer?

I'm planning on transferring to either USC or UCI for Mechanical Engineering. (Thinking about Cal Poly Pomona as well)

Any help is greatly appreciated!

You get subject credit for everything you’ve taken. I think that should be pretty self explanatory.

I never understood that either! They can only “transfer” over 70 credits, but you don’t have to repeat a class you took…then what takes the place of the many credits left over if you completed, say, 85 credits beforehand? Just a lottt of upper division electives or something?
