Transfer: UPenn to Berkeley EECS

How hard is it to transfer from UPenn (CAS) to EECS after freshmen year? I got into UCB straight out of high school but chose UPenn.

Will I pay the CA resident tuition? (my permanent residence is in CA)

I appreciate it. =)

i normally wouldn't support the leeching away of penn students to inferior institutions

but berkely/san fran weather and quality of life is so much better.

are you a california resident asking other people for advice on california public schools?
just call them?

um mengcheng...Berkeley is not at all an inferior institution with regards to those particular engineering majors.

shadowx:

how was your experience at CAS in Penn? Can you comment about some of the things you liked and disliked about CAS academically?

Thanks for any insight

berkeley INFERIOR institution??????????? good Lord i almost passed out. not right

ShadowX

I'm just curious. If you are interested in the genuine experiences of students who have transfered to UCB, why not ask UCB transfer students for their first hand accounts?

yes, i posted this on the UCB thread too. the reasons i want to transfer to berkeley is the following:
1. the cost of half the price of Penn
2. the EECS program is better than the engineering program at Penn

about my experience at penn...i love it at penn, but i think i would like berkeley too. academically, penn probably offers more smaller classes (20 ppl) for intermediate level courses than berkeley. and the professors are more accessible (weekly office hours). the students are of higher caliber in general (note the keyword, in general). i think berkeley is known more for its graduate education, correct me if i'm wrong.

the extracurricular options at penn are amazing, especially for business. there are renowned speakers coming in every week. recruiting is heavy as well, company presentations are occurring weekly as well. there are professional spring break trips planned by students to Shanghai, Dubai, and Israel.

if i do choose to transfer to berkeley, i will be very sad. penn is an amazing university

thanks shadowx.

are the EC options for business students only for Wharton UG? can a student join these if they were in an area of interest to a CAS student?

Good luck with your transfer

any student at Penn can participate in Wharton clubs.

Berkeley INFERIOR institution???????????

Yeah, there's this thing called "undergrad." At which Berkeley is Fail.

Yeah, Berkeley undergrad is miles from Penn undergrad, which ranks in the top 10 annually, ahead of schools like Columbia, Brown, University of Chicago, etc.

Just sayin'.

mengcheng, berkeley/SF weather IS amazing, but i would hold off on the quality of life. when i lived there, i did not like the crowdedness of the whole place.. i didnt particularly like Berkeley campus either, but that's just me.

how's Penn campus compared to Berkeley's?

I liked Penn more, but Berkeley is one of the most beautiful in the country.
I would even say Berkeley is better than Stanford, at least in my opinion.

Yeah, Berkeley's architecture might be better than Stanford's. I'm not such a fan of the colonial Spanish revival thing they have going on.

Shadowx, is this a hypothetical question? Are you at Penn yet? Seems as if you should know whether you qualify for instate tuition, that's why I question your situation. You know that EECS is the hardest major at Berkeley to get into, so you really should check their website for transfer requirements.
