Transfer Veteran Taking Questions

Hi there. I applied as a transfer this year. I applied to big breath Brown, UPenn, Tufts, Oberlin, Vassar, Swarthmore, University of Puget Sound, WashU, Pomona, and Yale.

I got accepted to Brown, UPenn, Swarthmore, and Vassar, and deffered at
WashU (never got back to them, lol)

So anyways, I went through the transfer gauntlet this year, and if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

If you don't mind my asking, could you post your stats & ECs? I'm still researching where I want to transfer. Thanks :)

Oh, please please please tell me what you did to get accepted to Vassar! Their transfer acceptance rate is 19%. My stats are excellent, but I'm still nervous.

No, actually I was lying to mess with your head!!!

Heehehe, yes, I did get into vassar! I was a varsity atlete though, because they (unlike the other schools) consider rugby a varsity sport. But if you have excellent stats, you'll be okay. 19% is still a pretty good number for excellent stats.

Okay, thanks. It has the lowest transfer admit rate of the schools I'm looking at (along with Bates and Cornell's CAS), so I'm getting nervous. I'm going for an open house in November and hope to shmooze a little, mostly out of genuine interest in the programs and the faculty, but also a wee bit out of pure self-preservation in the admissions process. :p

I think that's everything...

damn claysoul, you must be crazy good at rugby. I currently play for rugby for my college. What colleges like to see rugby as an EC when you transfer? And what position you play? I play tight lock.

Clay, why do you think you didn't get into Oberlin?

I think there is such thing as overqualification. If you have great stats, and are unlikely to attend their school, they may defer or reject you. For example, if a student had a 2400 SAT I/2400 SAT II's (combined)/4.0 Valedictorian/EC's/Hooks etc etc, I would think they would get rejected to schools like Emory, Vandy, TUFTS (i heard about this before especially from here)

The overriding pressure to perform such deeds is because yield affects USNews rankings; however, I believe that in transfer admissions, yield is not taken into account. Thus, whether or not a student will matriculate is irrelevant.

However, I know Georgetown is yield-oriented since they incur hefty fines for over-enrollment; so they cannot admit too many students, but at the same time, to maintain yield, they cannot admit too few students. I do not know if other schools suffer from this, but I doubt any of the adumbrated schools do.
