Transfer - What are my chances?

Hi All. This is my first post. :D

I'm applying for admissions to UT Austin. At this point, I have everything in except my application fee waiver and a letter of recommendation from a professor that she hasn't submitted yet.

Here are my stats:

Credits: Currently 53; will be 63 by the end of this semester when I graduate from Austin Community College with my AA in psychology.

GPA: Currently 3.88; only two B's, one of which was in a remedial math course, and the other in philosophy.

Essay: Since I don't have much in the way of "achievements" other than my GPA, I mostly wrote about how I've struggled throughout life to achieve success academically, but that I'm motivated to succeed, etc. Also, my interest in my major due to my family experiences.

School/Major: COLA/Psychology; want to minor in statistics

Extracurriculars: Member of Phi Theta Kappa, but I don't really have much time to do the volunteer projects because I take a full load and work 20 hours a week.

Resume: Mostly just work stuff due to my limited time for anything else.

Recommendations: One excellent letter from my physical anthropology professor; I had the top grade in her class in the fall semester.

Special Circumstances: I only finished 10th grade, and I have a GED. I grew up in a family that dealt with extreme poverty as well as family members with mental illness. I attempted to go to college before on two occasions, but ended up dropping halfway through the semester both times for financial reasons. But since I started back in 2011, I have been working super hard and haven't dropped any classes.

Oh, and I'm a white female.

What do y'all think? :D

I think you have a very good chance. Your struggles are a terrific achievement. Good luck!

Thanks! I truly never believed I’d get here, so I’m super nervous about getting in. :D

I was told by an advisor that you don’t have to turn in your letters by the deadline as they are not required documents. Other than that you should have a pretty good shot based on what I hear. If you don’t get into COLA then you always have undergraduate studies which I’m sure you will get into (my GPA is only a 3.43 and I was told if I bring up to at least a 3.5 I’ll have a very good shot).

Really? That’s good to hear that it doesn’t have to be by the deadline. I was starting to get antsy! I started the application in December because I needed to finish over winter break due to how busy it is for me during each semester.

But I asked my prof to write the letter during finals week of the fall semester, and she agreed and said she could write me a strong letter. However, since then, she’s been really hard to get ahold of. She hasn’t responded to my electronic request yet, and she said she needed some materials from me three weeks ago. I emailed her back to ask her to clarify what she needed. Since then I have left her one voicemail, and still no response. I don’t want to be annoying, and I’m sure she’s super busy, but I really need this letter considering my poor academic background prior to 2011. I think it’s important to show what I’m doing NOW, instead of what’s on my old transcripts.

This whole application process has been more difficult than I anticipated, but community colleges will take anyone, so it’s all new to me. lol.

Do y’all know about when they usually let transfers know if they have been accepted or not once the application is complete? I can’t imagine sitting around not knowing until summer!

I believe they start letting you know in May but I could be wrong so don’t hold me to that but I’m pretty sure that’s what I’ve heard.

Thanks for the info. Well, guess I’ll just have to wait then. Not so good at the waiting part. lol

My application is now complete since they approved my fee waiver this morning. I’m glad they did, since other schools only do that if you have an EFC of zero.

Also got in touch with the professor, and she should have my recommendation in soon.
