I have a 3.27 gpa with 14 credits as a freshman at Lehigh. My high school stats were pretty good, 1380, top 7% of class, all honors classes. I was wondering what my chances of transferring for fall of '06 would be to schools like BU and Northeastern. I will be attending Monmouth U this spring since I couldn't stand Lehigh any longer. My grades will most likely be straight A's at Monmouth. I am looking for city schools with decent business programs to apply to. I really like the city of Boston as of now. It would be great if you guys could give me some insight about my chances to transfer to places like BU or NEU as a soph. I would also gladly accept other schools to look into. Thanks

Gibson, I'm confused. In the thread above, you said your GPA ended up being 3.14. Which is it? If you don't mind heading south, you might consider Tulane as a possibility. Trinity University in San Antonio also has a very nice business program. I'd also recommend the University of Portland in Oregon, Seattle University in Washington state, Loyola College in Maryland, Creighton in Nebraska, Marquette in Wisconsin, Temple in PA, and the University of Denver as good possibilities for business programs in major US cities.

Carolyn, the 3.14 was the gpa I calculated myself, I then looked furthere down the Lehigh website and it showed my cumulative gpa including something called "quality points". So anyway on the Lehigh site, they have my overall gpa listed as a 3.27, which I was delighted to stumble upon. And about heading South, I really believe I would hate it there. For one thing, I HATE the heat, also I just don't think it's a region of the country that I would match with. I STRONGLY prefer the Northeast. Do you think the W on my transcript will hurt me much?

With all due respect, gibson, haven't we visited this subject rather extensively before? To me, the issue is that the schools you most favor had expected transfer GPAs higher than yours, right? So you need to apply to schools where your GPA is a good fit.

well I have only been posting because with this new information, I felt that you guys could more accurately predict my chances of transferring. Would I have any trouble getting into a place like Northeastern?

Gibson, have to agree with Jmmom. We've advised you to get counseling, figure out why you ended up with the W; identify the reasons why Lehigh wasn't a fit before you went casting about for another school; speak to an academic counselor to figure out if you were placed into the wrong classes, if you weren't as well prepared as other kids at Lehigh, or if your study skills, ability to juggle and be independent, etc. were at fault. To me, your gpa is just a distraction in the overall scheme of things.

If you were my kid and were having trouble at a place like Lehigh which has resources for all of the above, I'd be hard pressed to recommend Northeastern, which for all its strenghts in some areas, is still set up as a commuter school which offers terrific resources for kids who are mature and highly directed and can take advantage of the coop program, etc. For a kid who needs some handholding I think it would be a disaster, but that's me.... so regardless of whether you could get in or not, I think you'd be going from bad to worse. But-- you keep posting asking for advice and don't seem to want to take it. Maybe another sign of immaturity?

As I recall, I already discussed with you that Boston U requires at 3.5 GPA for transfers. So, BU is pretty much out if you are looking to transfer for the fall as they will not consider your grades at Monmouth.

You might try looking at some other options in the Boston area if it is
if it is Boston-or-bust in your mind. Suggestions: Lesley College, Emmanuel College, Stone Hill College, Assumption College, Merrimack.
You could also check out Babson, Bentley, and Bryant as possibilities.

Other than that, I don't have any other advice except to ditto what Blossom said so eloquently. Good luck!

gibson - I have held my tongue for a long time on your situation. Many parents have taken extensive time, and shown extensive care, to advise and help you out of concern for your wants and needs. My own observation is that you have not been listening. Simple as that - not listening. To have you responde as you do in the above post is ungracious and, imo, unacceptable. Others may disagree with me, but I feel that if you do not want to listen, you should not come here to seek advice. Rarely, if ever, have I spoken this way to a student here on cc, but you have touched a nerve with the above post.

why are you trying to transfer from lehigh? you seem to be really ungrateful about all these people giving you help, and will likely be unhappy anywhere you go. so you're going to transfer from lehigh to monmouth to somewhere else? why not just stay at monmouth?
i would recommend babson, though. and listening to the nice parents on this board who have told it to you straight: your gpa isnt high enough to get into some of the schools you want. like bu.

I'm sorry if I have insulted anyone, it's just that it seems to me that I have grossly misrepresented myself in my previous posts. The inaccurate judgements of my character tell me that I have not truly conveyed to everyone the type of person I actually am. Maybe it's a combination of my impatience and frustration due to the situation I am currently in which I never in a million years would have predicted. So once again, I am probably taking my aggravation out on this forum, so nobody should take anything personally. I really do appreciate all the time and effort everyone has put into my problem, even if I don;t show it all that much. Maybe it's that you guys aren't telling me what I want to hear. I guess this may be a good time to leave CC and just do things on my own from now on since I have obviously abused this incredible resource. Thanks again to all who have contributed and sorry for any unintentional malice on my part.

Exactly.
And if you want to avoid a repeat of finding yourself next fall in a school where you don't want to be, listening to things you don't want to hear, and actually heeding them, might help.

I would not recommend Babson, due to its extremely small size. You seem to want large urban universities such as Northeastern and BU. Babson is a very small suburban school with not a lot of majors to offer.

I suggest looking at Northeastern, BU, Bentley, Suffolk etc.. if you want to be in or 15 min. away from Boston
