Transfer with a C

I recently just finished a Calculus I course at my local junior college [Santa Monica College]. However, I found out that I earned a C from that class. This is extremely depressing news for me since I am just starting. It makes it even worse when I consider the amount of time and effort I actually placed into the class, but that is another problem I need to look into.

My goal is to transfer to either UCLA or UC Berkeley after two years here at my local junior college with a Computer Science Major. If I were to get all A's from here on out, the maximum GPA I could get is around 3.81. Although that is within the range of accepted GPAs, my concern is that the C will stand out negatively regardless of the improvement/better grades from higher math classes (assuming I do get A's).

Thus, my questions are -
1) How much will that C in Calculus I affect me even if I earn better grades in higher level math classes?
2) Should I consider asking my professor for an incomplete/a D so that I can retake the class? [I am aware that it still remains in the transcript.]
3) Is there any recommendation?
4) If I do end up getting a 3.81 GPA by the time I am applying, would I still have a good chance even with the C?
5) I'm not sure if this makes a difference, but I plan to ask another math professor for a letter of recommendation. Do you think this may help?

Any people out there who got accepted with C's before?

It will affect you a lot more than if you had an B

If your professor is cool like that then yes

You will be much more focused on getting great grades here on out. I too didn’t get an A in my cacl1 class and it really helped me to wake me up and made me work harder. It is good it happened to you early. From here on out you’re going to be on serious mode.

Yes

UCs do not take LoR.

Regarding question one, I understand that question feels like it should be the first question you ask. I mean, ouch thats not good, how bad will it hurt right? But you know it doesn’t mean you should quit school. Even if it is bad, are you not going to apply to those schools? No. So try to talk to your professors to work something out, but if it doesn’t go through just use it as motivation to keep going strong.

I was accepted to UC Berkeley (Economics) and UCLA (Business Economics) with a C in Calculus I.
