Hello to all. I'll cut to the Chase. I'm looking to transfer to Yale next Spring. First some background on myself. I'm kinda in a unique situation. I attended the University of Arizona a few years back. I did well the first few years, then due to personal circumstances, my grades took a nosedive. Officially, disquailified. I then started up in the corporate world. I became an Area Manager for a rather large company, for several years. I am now back in college. I attend Metro State College(small four year) here in Denver, CO. I have a 4.0 GPA this semester, in what is my first semester back. I'll probably take summer before the Fall too. Now the tough questions: Due I have a shot to get in, given my current 4.0, business experience, extensive community service, etc.? I feel like the only thing that could hold me back is the DQ. That just wasn't me, ya know. I just want a shot to prove I have what it takes to make it there. I'm certainly not dead set on Yale, as I believe top schools will give me a shot :-)...but Yale is a great school, from what I have heard. Oh yeah, I am looking to major in film/or new media, depending on the school. I am also considering Standford, Amherst, and UCSD. Any advice would be much appreciated. I know this was a long one...Thanks for your time.

have you always been strong in your academics before the nosedive? the DQ shouldn't be much of a problem if you've shown some consistency before, and also since you picked yourself up and took the initiative to find a good job in your gap year. i'd say for transfer, yale and stanford would be low reaches for you, and UCSD's a high match

screwitlah, thanks for the quick response. To answer your question, I have always been academically strong. It really is good to get a fresh viewpoint on the matter. To be honest, I think most of family and friends believe I have gone off the deep end in pronouncing my desire to attend Yale. Although they have never reached for these types of heights themselves, so I probably put up the blockers when i hear their negative jabber. I also forgot to mention I will be seeking an art degree, most likely in film :-). Thanks again for the help.

Genuinely (and eloquently) explain the reasons behind your "nosedive" in your college app. and you'll have as good a shot as any to get into Yale. The 4.0GPA and you're qualifications look like a match for top-caliber schools.

Good luck

BTW haha, its funny that a "Chaser" wants to cut to the "Chase" :)

Thanks for the advice and encouragement Atomic. Glad to see ya like the Cut to the Chase line...my name is actually Chase, so i use it a lot :-).

Your best shot at Yale would probably be grad school. Do they even have spring admits? You will still need SATs and they take so few transfers...
