Hey guys
I recently got admission offers from Duke and Middlebury, but my dream school has always been Yale. I am seriously considering the transfer option and I'd like to know what looks better to Yale: a big private research university or a small liberal arts college?

Daniel, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not make your college choice based on what looks better to Yale as a transfer school. That would be an incredible mistake. For one, getting into Yale as a transfer student is nearly impossible. However, much more importantly, you need to LOVE (or at least learn to LIKE) where you go to school. It is well time that you accept the rejection and realize you have two EXCELLENT EXCELLENT schools to choose from. Those are schools where 99.9% percent of students would give their left leg to go to. Select the one where you will be the happiest, and go into it with a positive attitude. Chances are, you may even like it so much you don’t bother filling out a transfer app.

(And, heaven forbid, you still want to transfer… both Duke and Middlebury are excellent schools to transfer from; it is not like there is a “better” one from those two)

I don’t know but go to the school that is best for you. Transfering is more selective than RD.

Did you apply to Yale? Your chances of getting into Yale as a transfer student are extremely small, especially if you weren’t accepted the first time around. I’ll second booyaksha’s advice–you need to learn to love the school you end up at!!! Both Duke and Middlebury will offer you incredible opportunties. If I were you, I’d go to Middlebury for undergrad and go to a larger research university for grad school. You’ll never have another opportunity to attend a liberal arts college, but you could always go to Duke or even Yale for grad school.

You’re guys are 100% right. I keep teeling myself how fortunate I am for being accepted to some of world’s best colleges but my deferred/rejection “hangover” is crushing me ;(
Thanks
