Okay so i am currently a freshman at GVSU and am considering transferring to MSU. I do like GVSU, i just don't seem to love it like i thought i would. I can't decide if transferring would be a good thing though. I have an undecided major, so that doesn't really play into it.
At GVSU:
-I have made some good friends
- I am doing well in my classes
-I like that everything is free (workouts, bus, games)

What i don't like is how small the campus is, i think that it gets boring. I also don't like the fact that only freshman are ever on campus after class. I also hate that everything closes so early (dining halls close at 8pm except for one), and a ton of people leave on the weekends. I also think that Allendale is quite boring (middle of nowhere: have to drive 10 minutes to get to stores). I also like to party, not an incredible amount but occasionally. At GVSU you have to constantly worry about getting mipped. Which is super annoying.

So basically i'm not sure if MSU would be better, or if i should stay here due to my friends. I don't want to get to state and not make any friends, since it wouldn't be my freshman year.

I’d stay. Transferring is expensive, in more ways than one.

You like it but don’t love it. And part of the reason was probably because you thought you would love it but don’t. It didn’t meet your expectations. How will going to MSU be different? You should probably at least visit MSU on the weekend and see if you can meet people there. Otherwise, you’re likely to be disappointed again.

I would advise against transferring to MSU, unless you HATE GVSU and you think MSU would be a better fit. From your post it sounds like you think GVSU is decent but not “perfect.” In addition, it is tougher than people think to transfer to MSU, and I think they mainly accept transfers after their sophomore year of college. A little stat for you I’ve found, MSU is a great school but their transfer out rate is about 16%, while GVSU’s transfer out rate is only 9%. Therefore, MSU might not be your “perfect” college and you might lose out on credits that do not transfer, which would prolong your college career and increase your debt.

Also, give it another semester to see how you like GVSU. Also, I always recommend being involved on campus with organizations and meeting people. As for people leaving on the weekends, it happens at every school. Most non-freshmen or mature freshen stay around campus on the weekends. Also, Grand Rapids is 15 minutes away and has lots of things to do.

If you are going to transfer out, the easier/more feasible options would be the Michigan directional schools such as CMU, WMU, or EMU.
