Transfer

Im a freshman at the University of Michigan and I am looking to transfer to UPenn (originally from NY). I didnt do very well last semester (3.2), what GPA would I need to get into UPenn? How heavily do admission officers weight HS transcript and standardize test scores?

There is no magic number--though as always, the higher the better.

I think your best bet is to get a spectacular recommendation (perhaps even from a high school prof if you aren't yet close to any prof after a single semester), and make it clear in your essay that there is some academic need/area of interest that you have that simply cannot be met by Michigan. Granted, it could be difficult to find such an area as Michigan is a university of formidabler academic breadth and depth...but I'm sure it can be done.

The word on the street is that the transfer rate at UPEnn has dropped dramatically (it is harder to get into).

Out of curiosity is University of Michigan a grade deflation school? I know that many State U's have harsh grading.
