TRANSFER?????

I’m panicking about not getting into UF. I don’t know what I’ll do if I don’t, but I’m thinking about transferring as a backup. These are my stats (if you could chance me I’d greatly appreciate it) http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-florida/1810927-pllleeeeease-chance-me.html#latest

How soon can one transfer? Is it doable after one semester? Also, I understand you need an AA to transfer- what is this and how do you get it

Thanks!

You can transfer from an accredited university or 2 year community college after you have successfully completed 60 credit hours and have completed all the pre-reqs for your intended major

UF only accepts transfers after completion of 60 credit hours, and you’ll transfer to UF as a junior. They don’t accept anything sooner.

An A.A is an associate of arts degree. You can obtain one from a community college. Which takes two years to earn.

UF says this about prospective transfer students: transferring is strongly advised and will greatly enhance the opportunity for a successful transfer experience. Eligible transfer applicants must be in good academic standing at the institution(s) attended and must have completed 60 or more transferable semester hours from a regionally accredited institution, or an AA degree from an in-state public community college, or 60 transferable semester credits of course work listed in the Florida Statewide Course Numbering System from a Florida nonpublic postsecondary institution.

Prospective transfers from Florida public community colleges can refer to the Fla. Virtual Campus (FLVC) Common Prerequisite Manual  for state university transfer prerequisite course requirements. Transfer applicants who meet UF minimum admission requirements will be referred to the appropriate UF college for an admission decision. Applicants who exceed minimum requirements are most competitive for admission at the junior level, if space is available.

Transfer applicants are encouraged to visit the college’s website or contact the college to be sure that deadlines and academic requirements are met.

@Soccerchic24 so if I was to transfer to UF from FSU after one year at FSU, would I only be able to do 2 years at UF? or could I enter as a “junior” and still be able to do my last 3 years of college at UF?

You could only transfer to UF, if you have the 60 credits (and whatever prerequisites are required for your major). If you had the credits due to DE/AP/AICE/IB, then you may be able to have the 60 credits after only one year, but you still need the prerequisites for your major.

After transferring to UF, you will have your normal 2 or 3 years to graduate. Longer if you co-op, etc.

Edit: What drives the “limit” is the requirement that you be a full time student, advising ensuring you’re taking classes toward your major (or they will not approve your schedule), and the dreaded excess hour surcharge. You can be hit with a surcharge equal to 100 percent of the tuition rate for each credit hour in excess of 110 percent. If the degree takes 120 credit hours to complete, they could start charging the surcharge after you’ve taken 132 hours (110% of 120).
