Transfer

Hello,

At the private "prestigious" high school I attended I was a slacker. I had an overall 3.39 GPA SAT I 640 math 710 writing 720 verbal. I took a year between high school and college to enroll in an educational program in Europe. The program really put things in perspective for me. Coming back to attend the University of Maryland I've been developing a work ethic. I noticed that when I actually apply effort, school becomes more enjoyable and consequently a lot easier for me. As it stands, I have an A average for all my courses, and overall based on my performance this first semester it looks like I have a good chance of having a 3.75-4.0 GPA.

Truthfully, I wouldn't mind remaining at UMD but I was just curious if I have any prospects for transferring to a university like Johns Hopkins, Northwestern or Columbia.

I appreciate your feedback

I think you have a very reasonable shot--- just retake your SAT's. If you get high SAT's, I imagine you're exactly what they are looking for in transfer admissions (i.e "finding" youself between HS and college)

I think you have a reasonable chance if you end up getting the 3.75+ that your shooting for....don't retake your SAT's because Johns Hopkins does not require SAT's for transfers, so no need.

Just to follow up, I got my semester grades back:
(Credits, Course, Grade)
4, Economics, A+
4, Computer Science, A+
3, Sociology, A+
3, History, A
1, Computer Science, Pass (Pass/Fail)
Though at Maryland +'s and -'s are not counted towards the GPA, so I believe my GPA therefore would appear as 4.0, though the A+'s will appear.
