What is Claremont's policy on transfer students? Is it usually harder, or easier to get in as a transfer compared to freshman? Also, does claremont mckenna give scholarships/aid to transfer students?

I applied and was waitlisted last year, ended up going to george washington university in DC and getting a 3.9 GPA. I like gw, but I still have my heart set on cmc.

I went to an information session and it sounded extremely hard for transfers. The head of admissions said that usually they only let transfers in according to open spots they have from people transferring out. Sometimes that can only be 2 or 3 places.

CMC accepted 52 (I believe that's correct.. maybe it was 62) transfers this year. They opened a new dorm, so they had more open spots.

I'm not sure what the acceptance rate was because I don't know how many people applied. Most schools have a lower acceptance rate for transfers than for freshman.

That's weird. I swear the guy said they only accepted a couple of transfers. I believe you , though.

yea 52 sounds about right... considering i've met many many transfers already as a freshman ahhahhaa

i go to NYU right now and i want to go to CMC sooo badly too!! Yay for transfers :) i've been california dreaming all year

oh cmc is by far my first choice transfer school. i was rejected the first time I'm pretty sure my interview was why.

nineteen, why do you want to transfer out of Penn? I am looking seriously at CMC or Penn for next year and would love to hear your thoughts.

i'd transfer to penn for wharton but nothing else is really anything special. The campus is too urban, the classes are too big, and it just seems pretty impersonal overall. That being said, I'm obviously biased and pretty much everyone else here really loves it...also the degree look pretty good.

Gotcha. Overall, too big, too urban. How about the people? What do you think about the students in general?

intelligent, motivated, etc. Somewhere around 30 percent are east coast jewish kids and there are a ton of international students. There is a huge greek scene which pretty much dominates social life. Kids are either huge nerds or huge partyers with little middle ground and generally don't go out of their way to be friendly. Haha I'm not doing a very good job of getting my CMC competition to apply somewhere else...where do you go now and why don't you like it? That will help decide the best fit for you.

CMC admit rate was around 20-30 percent for fall 08, specifically because they did add the new dorm building. I applied for fall 08 as a transfer, was rejected. I met with the dean of admissions, and he stated that to be competitive one should aim to get a 3.6 minimum. Additionally I believe this year to they'll be excepting the same amount as they did for fall 08.

thanks so much liek0806...just wondering, where do you go now?

liek0806,

What was your GPA? Did you try to transfer from a community college or a 4 year institution? I am going to apply to CMC this year for Fall admission. This is my number #1 school.

P.S. #Nineteen Same questions apply to you?

I was rejected out of high school so idk if these questions apply to me. But anyways I had about a 3.8, 30 ACT, and a coach's recommendation
