Hey all, I was wondering how UCs determine which GE courses we took at CC would satisfy their GE requirement for graduation?
I know many students come on this thread who already transferred to a UC, so...I'm computer science student and I have not completed IGETC or any verified transfer program like TAG
For example, for UCSD Warren college, it says that for English requirment I have to complete two writing programs AT UCSD!!!
" Warren College Writing Program (WCWP) 10A and 10B. Both courses must be taken for letter-grade at UC San Diego. "
(Academic Requirements)
so the two English courses I completed at my CC are for no use?! this would sound really awful for us transfer students, cuz it'll take much more time to graduate if they wanna be selective about the GEs we can transfer from CC to satisfy their GE requirement for graduation!!

UCSD admissions tend to be all over the place, you never know which college you’ll land in. Unfortunately, I don’t know the specifics of what transfers there… best I could find was this[/url">http://www.ucsd.edu/catalog/front/UgrdPol.html#igetc"]this, which says “The colleges will make every effort to apply as much transfer course work as possible.” So, maybe?

In my experience (Berkeley CoE, EECS), they were very nice about transfer work for GE requirements. For example, I was able to clear the english requirement with an OoS semester english class and two quarter CCC english classes. They let me use some random intro psych class to fill a different requirement. A couple things couldn’t be transferred in, but that’s because CoE requires upper div GE classes.

Anyway, if you do have to take a couple humanities, it’s not the end of the world. I mean, retaking all of them would be ridiculous, but if they’re picky about two or three classes it’s not that bad. It’ll let you ease up on technical classes a bit (always a plus!) and it won’t cut into your scheduling too much. You could also catch up on them over the summer or something if you’re really concerned about having time for all your CS classes.

hmm I see, thanks
one more question, if I drop a course (after I get accepted to a school) that I have planned to take on my UC application update, will they reject me?!
I planned a math course(diff. equation) that is not required for UCSD( nor advised) computer science, but it is a requirement for UCB and UCSB…my first choice is UCSD, so if I get into UCSD, I want to drop diff. equation…on the other hand I don’t want to drop it now, just in case I don’t get into UCSD…so what do you think about that?!
