Transferable semester unit minimum?

On the transfer requirement for UCI and UCSD respectively it says

"Complete 60 transferable semester units prior to the start of the intended quarter "
"Complete a minimum of 60 UC-transferable semester units (90 quarter units) by the end of spring term prior to fall admission"

Is it true that you don't need to have completed the minimum? I heard this from a friend so I want to get my info straight.

Another question what if the major I want to apply in is impacted? That means they’re accepting less students? Generally my chances of getting accepted would be “impacted” as well right?

Well first of all, yes the least is 60 units. But, you need to full fill the REQUIREMENTS in order to be eligible. I’m an engineer major, and I need to finish up 5 math classes (23 units), 3 physics classes (12 units), 2 english classes (8 units) and 1 chemistry class (5 units). So you can clearly see that’s almost 50 units right there. Generally speaking, the requirements for all UCs are the same. But, there are some classes that vary. Example, UCD wants a speech class, UCSC wants me to do another chem class, etc.

So the key point is to finish up most (if not all) of your lower division classes. People who complete almost all of their classes, with 60 units have more advantage compared to people who have done completed most of their requirements with 60 units.

Applying for an impacted major is serious business. You know there’s going to be competition. You need to complete all your required major classes, complete 60s units and most importantly, maintain a good GPA in order for them to consider you. So best of luck!
