transfering after this year

So im trying to decide where to transfer to after this next year. i have been at community college for 3yrs have a 3.3 gpa
So far im looking to go into engineering (civil to be exact) and my back up is construction management
I have a few questions about transferring i hope someone can answer im also going to talk to one of the instructors about transferring at my school this week.

1) Should i retake my sat and act because my high schools scores were less then spectacular. i think i got like 18 on the act but i know for sure id do alot better now.

2) Thinking about going out of state looking at schools in ny, texas, florida, and idaho, also looking at in state which is university of washington any suggestions as to good schools in the areas i listed. ones on the list so far are (nyu-poly, uw, u of I, texas tech, and

3)Should i still try and do lots of extra curricular activities. or is it more important to focus on the gpa since im at a college already?

4) How does financial aid differ for transfer students? and where would be some good places to look for scholarships for transfer students.

5) Since my highschool grades are low how will this affect my transfer? i had a 2.5 in highschool but now its a 3.3 in college so how should this affect me. i would see it as a plus but schools might look at it differently.

6)Anything you would warn transfer students about such as a bad experience you might of had?

1 - don’t bother retaking

2 - nyu poly is a waste of money. try suny stony brook or purdue

3 - you can do 1 or 2 ECs

4 - OOS publics might not give very good finaid

5 - since you’ve been out of HS for a while, they’ll matter less

6 - nothing really

FA for transfers varies with the school, sometimes transfers are treated like fr applicants, and other times they receive less FA. There are relatively few merit scholarships for transfers, though there are some.

In general, you should NOT expect good FA, if any, from OOS publics. Also, NYU is known for giving poor FA, do a Search on this forum and you will read what others have found.

Outside of in-state publics, you should be looking at WICHE schools like UI.
