Sorry for the long read. The actual question is at the bottom.

I always knew what 4-year private college I wanted to attend. Unfortunately, my parents were not in a situation to help pay for my college and private colleges are expensive. So when I got accepted, I deferred my enrollment for a year and attended a community college. This semester I finally made it to that 4-year private college. I love it here. The location is great, the campus is great, the professors are great, the other staff is great, I feel at home and I really fit in with the other students. About halfway through the semester, however, I began to realize that the courses themselves were not what I wanted.

When it was time to register for classes, I registered right on time but only got one course that counted towards my major. This school offers courses Semester 1, Semester 2, Odd Year, and Even Year, so if you miss a necessary class you may have trouble graduating on time. We also pay for 16 credits minimum, and I was unable to fit 16 credits in my schedule. So if I stayed for Spring Semester, I would be taking almost purely electives, and would not be getting all the credits I paid for.

Right before Thanksgiving break there was a meeting for everyone in my major as the major is truly in it’s infancy at this college and they want to make changes to improve it. This meeting solidified my worries that this college is not right for me at this time.

I was devastated and began searching for another college to call home. I found a few schools closer to home and visited over the break. I finally decided on a little-known technology college. They just started offering Bachelor’s degrees so their admissions requirements are getting more rigorous and they are trying to attract more out-of-state students. I really like the program and took a very close look at the courses and professors. I was accepted and enrolled into an associates program that will give me the classes I need.

This school is also closer to home. I won't get any financial aid this semester because it is only offered in the fall, but because this college is public it is already less expensive.

My plan is to return to my 4-year-college after I get my associates to complete my Bachelors. The courses I take in the associates program will fill in the gaps and compliment the program at my current college very well. However, the registrar at my current college will not even look at the course catalog at the school where I am transferring to, so I won’t know until I graduate with my AAS if any of the classes will transfer. The transfer advisor took a look, however, and thinks there will be some equivalents, and almost everything should transfer at least as an elective.

So my question is has anyone else transferred four times? I know this will add an extra year or two to my college career and I’m a little worried about the extra loans. But I know this is the right choice for me right now because it will get me where I want to go with my desired career. I would not suggest this route for anyone. Thanks for sharing.
