Hi, I'm a community college student planning to transfer next fall (2012). My current gpa is 2.2 (low). I'll be done with my GEs by spring 2012. My question is:

Lets just say worse comes the worst I get Cs on the classes I need to take and finish with 2.2/2.3 GPA by spring. Which college do you think I have the best bet on?
A. San Francisco State
B. CalState East Bay
C. CalState Monterey Bay
D. CalState Northtridge

If you must know, SFSU is my #1 school that I want to go to. Love the city.

Additional info about me:
I'm retaking the classes I got Ds and Fs so even if I get Cs on them, it should slightly raise my gpa up. I'm also an upper division student (60+ units).

I also live in Los Angeles, so I'm nowhere near any of those schools.

Thank You. Answers with explanation will be greatly appreciated.

I forgot one more thing. My major isn't impacted in any of those schools (Graphic Design). So that should bring up my chances on getting in right?

bump. please help me out. thanks

Assuming you are non-local for transfer to the first three on your list (I don’t know if your CCC is considered local to Northridge - see link below) my best guess is that your chances of getting into the colleges if you are non-local to ALL FOUR would be

Maybe - East Bay & Monterey Bay
Improbable - SFSU
Long Shot - Northridge

I say that based on the relative popularity/demand of the CSUs… some CSUs just don’t have many spots open for transfers and the ones they do go first to LOCAL transfers and then (by GPA rank, per major) go to non-local transfers.

Put another way, as a non-local transfer with a 2.2 GPA, you are at the very bottom of the GPA ranked list… it is a question of if they run out of spaces before they reach your particular GPA rank.

thanks for the reply anna. Yes, I am a non-local student. I am attending pasadena city college which is far from any of those colleges. I’m just assuming the worst. If I keep my grades up until Spring 2012, I should finish with a 2.5-2.7 GPA. I need 9 more GE classes which 4 of them are the classes I’m retaking. Darn, improbable for SFSU even for the major that isn’t impacted on that school? (Visual Communication Design)

What you need to search for is the GPA cut off for nonlocals last year’s transfer class for SFSU. I know SJSU has it on their own website but haven’t seen SFSU’s yet–so maybe you should dig around for that specific info to get a better gauge on it.

If you really want to go, then apply to SFSU and see what happens. If you are really interested in SFSU, it is worth the application fee. All I’m saying is that in the larger picture, East Bay/Monterey are much less competitive these days.

Hey, I just wanted to give you some sign of hope. I just got admitted to SFSU today and I am non-local resident, I live in San Diego. My GPA is 2.45, so you might have a chance.

@roseyourboat - were you just admitted for Fall 2011? Or for Spring 2012?

annikasorrensen, I am actually a transfer student for spring 2012.
