Transfering from a UC/CSU/CC to UCI?

I'm not exactly sure if I'm in the right place - sort of overwhelmed right now with finding this place. But anyway - I'm currently a senior, trying to decide between...well...schools. I'm intending to enter as an English Major and hope, desperately, to transfer to UCI's English program in two years/one years time. I've been accepted by a UC (Riverside) and a CSU (Long Beach). I know that transferring from a four-year to another four-year is incredibly hard - more difficult for a CSU than a UC. Additionally so from two years/one years on - given the crowding of the UCs and the economy itself.

So I was considering community college - which I'm worried about. I know that community college students are given first priority. But I'm worried, because it's not like it's going to be that easy as everyone else assumes. I don't want to work my butt off and end up having to go back to a CSU, which I could have just done two/one year earlier. That would be so depressing to my already despondent spirit. I like to believe myself a rather motivated person (not boasting or anything) - but I'm still worried that for whatever reason, I'll screw up, and end up not even at a UC. Call it irrational paranoia. I call it worried. Chew-on-nails worried, which I hardly do.

I've been running all over the place for the whole month gathering views and suggestions, and now the deadline is coming like an oncoming storm. I'm lost and I need to find myself. With a little more help. Anyone have anything to suggest or...something, before I make my decision?

By the by - I was wondering, has anyone heard of anyone transferring from Riverside to Irvine? And - if it's possible to transfer in one year from a community college, completing all requisites and whatnot? I've heard of stories - myths, legends from years old - but I was just wondering if anyone had their own say about this.

Thanks anyone for reading. I really appreciate it.

go to Comm college, do TAG for UCI, and get in

Don’t worry about. We get anxious/nervous/crazy people all the time here! LOL. (I’m paranoid and anxious! ;D)

My advice would be to attend a CC. If you really want to go to UCI, fill out a TAG, which is a contract between you and Irvine that you will be accepted based on conditions you will have met prior to the Fall before transferring.

I sincerely wish you the best of luck! I decided to go to a CC, because I got Financial Aid money and I’m saving that for my UC education!! [:

Good luck again…[:

OH! Right! TAG. I was wondering about that - is it like… I’ve read UCI’s website. Plenty of times. But I’m still confused - maybe it’s because I’m ridiculously reading too deeply. But is it for during the transfer process or is it for exemplary students? What exactly qualifies you for it? Other than the transferring, what incentive is there? If any?

Thanks by the way! Quick response. Goodness.

@sakurax - Oh, I know. It’s so funny how college anxiety unites people like that! Thanks for the suggestion. Wooh for saving money! Thanks for the luck. Phoo - gonna need it.

why won’t it be as easy as everyone else assumes? you really don’t need super good grades to transfer.

i suggest going to CC and signing TAG.

Transfer process. Open to any CCC student who has thirty units or more (that are UC transferrable). GPA depends on the major/school.

No incentive, you just…get in? LOL.

Thanks everyone for answering. I really appreciate it and if I could bake cookies… Well. I’d eat them.

Uhm - I meant…like…, in regards to TAG - it says “Guarantee.” So does that mean you’re guaranteed entrance? That’s really what I meant by incentive, heh.

^
Yes…I thought that was stated in my first post. You’re over-thinking again, xD. Unless you do something that breaks that contract, then you should be guaranteed to attend.

cough Sorry about that. Thanks again. Muchas, muchas gracias.

^
De nada. Really, don’t sweat it. You’re well on your way now that you’re informed. [:

also, just as a warning if you do go to cc… don’t trust the counselors!
haha i dunno about you guys, but my counselors are sooooooooo not reliable!

Just ask your questions on here! ;D To double-check, that is.

A lot of people have had bad counselor advice, but that’s what CC is for!
