Transfering from CC to UCDavis?

Hi,

I plan on majoring as a mechanical engineer.
I was just wondering if I can just complete my general ed classes in my CC then transfer to Davis? My orientation counselor told us to follow the paper she gave us to transfer, and I already looked at assist.org. But, I've been getting mixed communications lately. My dad told me I can just complete my general ed classes in CC, then when I get to Davis I can take my major classes (Physics, Chem, Math, Engr, etcetc). I'm not sure if this is right, because my friend told me I have to start taking some of my major classes based on my major. I was told that because I'm majoring as an engineer, I shouldn't take all of my general ed right away, but because my CC has so many people it's impossible to take the classes I need.

So far I'm in my first semester, and because I signed up late, all my major classes were taken, so I could only take my general ed classes. In my second semester, I plan to catch up on my lower division classes, hopefully. But I don't think I'll be able to transfer within 2 years. I know I might have to stay for 3-4 years, but I'm not sure.

Thanks for the help! And sorry if this was already asked, I couldn't find the thread. ):

For engineering you shouldn’t be taking a whole lot of gen ed classes. I think you only need to take 2 english classes, a comm class, a poli sci/history and an art class. Other than that you should be getting in as much of the major classes as possible. You need to have completed the calc based physics series, 1 or 2 chem classes, statics (if offerd), calc1-3, diff eq’s, linear algebra etc. Go based off of assist.
